Hi - Just installed an HKS not too long ago, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
BUT - since you have the WRX harness, it's a relatively painless install. Here's just a quick rundown from memory, and if I can find a better thread, I'll post you a link. 1. Disconnect neg terminal on vehicle battery 2. Unscrew (it's either 3 or 4 I think) screws that hold lower portion of plastic molding under steering wheel. 3. Pull this off to expose ignition wiring et al 4. I unbolted the big metal "crash safety" looking bar that appears to be attached to the sub frame of the car (gives more room to work) 5. The harness is pretty much plug and play, so you really can't go wrong. It took me a little while to find it as it's tight in there with a lot of connectors, but IIRC I think it was a blue connector. Like I said, if you get the wrong one, it simply won't fit. 6. Decide where you want to mount the timer, some mount it by the cupholder, others by the ash tray, and others in various unique places. TEMPORARILY mount it and run whatever necessary wires to the ignition area, and connect to wiring harness. 7. I think the Apexi has an 02 sensor, and maybe voltage. If you need to splice into ECU, do a search - I think the 02 voltage is different on our cars, but you have some options. 8. Otherwise, make sure everything is connected, you may need to splice into e-brake handle wire (I think it's pink on an 02 WRX) 9. Make sure everything is connected, and BEFORE putting everything back together, give it a test. If everything appears to be working properly, put it all back together. 10 Rinse and repeat. (I'll see if I can find that thread) Also, if you have upgraded security system, you will need to do some add'ln mods to get that to work (alarm) while your TT is counting down. |
