recommended oil at 1000 miles
All, what is the BEST possible oil that I can put in after my break-in period of 1000 miles. Money is of no consequence for this important mile-stone. Please give me a reason along with the suggestion.
What's the thoughts on synthetic vs. non-synthetic? brand vs. other brand? Thanks!!!!

When I hit 1000, I went with conventional. I got a free oil change from the dealer, so I took it. Also after that still went back to them for conventional at 4000. Today I hit 7500 and also went to them. But I took my own oil, Mobil 1 Synthetic, 5w-30. I tell you the car should have come that way. Off the bat it feels smoother. I've used Mobil 1 before on my other cars. I live by it and will keep using it on my WRX until I find a better one. Just telling you what I did.

I think its recommended that you dont switch to synthetic till the 2nd or 3rd oil change. (at least 7500 miles)

There are other premium lubricants instead of Mobil 1 (which from what I understand isn't entirely a full synthetic anymore anyway.) Motul, Redline, and Royal Purple being some of those that are indeed fully synthetic. You will pay a premium for these oils as they can go beyond $10/quart.

There is no BEST motor oil, regardless of what anyone on here will post. There has never been a comprehensive side-by-side analysis of all the major motor oils other than a Consumer Reports aricticle a few years back. Their advice was to get the cheapest dino oil you can find and use it according to your owner's manual. The "benefits" of the synthetic did not justify the additional expense unless you intend on keeping your vehicle for the rest of your life and drive 50k per year.
