Koni Yellows aren't bad at all for how much they cost. I had some on a Miata I owned back in the day.

Big difference between Koni's on a Subaru and Koni's on a Miata.

You're right, but I have owned the set on the Miata and driven 2 other subarus with koni yellows before.

Even raced against a couple as well.

Point being, the ones on the Miata were likely mono tubes while the ones on the Subaru were almost definitely twin tubes. The way they deal with repeated bumps is very different. Granted on a super smooth surface (like ZMax) twin tubes are just fine. On something like the west course at Nats or Bristol, it can get a little rough.

All of our lots in Atlanta are rough as hell... I've had almost the whole car off the ground in the Commerce lot we used last year for AXA.

Its kinda like that one Bane quote from the Batman movie. "You adapted to the Darkness, I was born in it."

The little tiny lot that we used for the Grid Life demo autox had a jump into an off camber left hander. You want to adjust the steering in the air so that when you landed you could turn.

We lost our tour partially due to having jumps that routinely had cars 4 off, and they were in 3rd gear sections of the course

Here is the album from the event:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/132077...57684869768146

If you scroll through them there are some really interesting ones. We didn't have a photographer for the heat STU ran, but my car shows up in the SSM class part of the gallery.

Those are some cool pictures with the cars alil off the ground, but it barely a jump. Hardly enough to cancel tours IMO...

Back 5 or so years ago when we used the WHOLE AMS lot, there's a concrete hump that is in the middle of the lot. They would put the finish over this thing frequently, so everyone was literally airborne through the lights. We had to make sure the lights were tall enough to catch the cars... There was about 8 inches of air under most of the faster cars going through there.

There was another album with cars much higher off, but I am not sure where that is and wouldn't be surprised if it was "removed." lol I know our lotus was several inches up at that event and scrapped the whole underbelly. I don't mind jumping my car, it takes it like a champ, but there were others who were less than thrilled by it. I may be biased, but that was my favorite tour to date. Also my first tour win, and I had the 1000 points for day 1 despite pulling an all nighter.

So here's a question that I now have that Xian on the FriendFace...

He mentioned that we could only have a 2 way adjustable strut...

In the STU rules it stats ANY shock may be used as long as you can't adjust it remotely.

So... are 3-way adjustable coilovers\struts legal in STU?

They are legal. The remote adjustment was meant for electronic systems like the old Tein EDFC or whatever it was called where you could change something on the controller in the car and it would electronically change the shock settings at each corner.

I believe there's a rule in Street though that limits you to two adjustments which is probably what he's referencing.

I have those JRZ RS two ways that could be modded to fit an STi

Damn it Tim, you drug dealer...

I've literally helped 2 friends buy pimp shocks for their cars while I've had these fortune autos...

If my bank account was willing I'd be grabbing them from you this weekend... lol

So Xian and a local guy disagree with you Tim on whither or not having triple adjustable coilovers in ST... Xian sites the "intent" of the rule listed at the bottom of 14.5.B as being the only definition of "Any", thus limiting the number of adjustments that is listed in section 13.5.A.1

Clear as mud... lol

Quote:
14.5 SHOCK ABSORBERS
A. Shock absorber bump stops may be altered or removed.
B. Any shock absorbers may be used. Shock absorber mounting brackets which serve no other purpose may be altered, added, or replaced, provided that the attachment points on the body/frame/subframe/chassis/suspension member are not altered. This installation may incorporate an alternate upper spring perch/seat and/or mounting block (bearing mount). The system of attachment may be changed. The number of shock absorbers shall be the same as standard. No shock absorber may be capable of adjustment while the car is in motion, unless fitted as original equipment. MacPherson strut equipped cars may substitute struts and/or may use any insert. This does not allow unauthorized changes in suspension geometry or changes in attachment points (e.g., affecting the position of the lower ball joint or spindle). It is intended to allow the strut length changes needed to accommodate permitted modifications which affect ride height and suspension travel.
Quote:
13.5 SHOCK ABSORBERS
A. The make of shock absorbers, struts, and strut housings may be substituted providing that the number, type (e.g., tube, lever, etc.), system of attachment and attachment points are not altered, except as noted below. The interchange of gas and hydraulic shocks absorbers is permitted. The following restrictions apply:
2018 SCCA® National Solo® Rules — 65
13. Street
1. No more than 2 (two) separate external shock damping adjustment controls are allowed. This permits the use of shocks which originally came with more than two external adjustments, which have been converted to double-adjustables, only if the additional adjustment controls have been permanently disabled (e.g., via welding, epoxying, grinding off). Gas pressure adjustment is not considered a damping adjustment.

I read that red part as specifically talking about the mounting of a shock, in that the intention is to allow shorter than oe shocks, coilover type shocks, but not intended to allow geometry changes.

Any shock may be used.

But I am sure fancy shocks will eventually be seen as a barrier to entry, so I expect a takeback proposal any month now.

It says in B, first sentence "any shock may be used". The rest is just saying provided it's in the same place with the same attachment to the car. What part of any is confusing?
