What wheel sizes are you able to run with 265? I have heard 17x9.5 +45 slightly rub on KW coilover external reservoir and require a small spacer.
I was planning on 18's, maybe 18x10 +30, which I think would clear the inside but fender would be close.

FYI, there's a proposal to allow 11" wheels and 315s in STU for the 2021 season. Not sure what would fit on an STi without fender work and what would make the most sense w the gearing. If you have opinions checkout the April Fastrack and write a letter.

1. Goals contradict each other. Can't preserve competitiveness of old cars and while letting newer cars in... especially newer cars that better fit the rules. 2. Letting cars from AS and SS into STU: The C5Z and 991 (997). STU has traditionally been a place in ST for BS cars. Given the current price of C5Z's compared to the proposed newer cars... I have a feeling STU would turn into Spec C5Z or Baby CAM-S. Anyway, those are just opinions... Make sure to write your letters |

Say this happens, where are people who want to run small tires going to run? (i.e. not chop up their car)
I don't have a horse in the race to write a letter, but it doesn't seem like a good move. |

There's no chopping in ST. Just rolling, without changing the outer contour.

So realistically the very best a GD would be able to manage is 285 and more likely 265.

Personally, I'd love the 315 rule, because the vette is about the only car than can make it work on all 4 corners. However, I don't think thats the best move for the class. The GD's might be put out to pasture, but is that such a bad thing for the class? Its really hard to find a GD car to build now... This would encourage people to run newer STI's and I see that as a good thing. |

GD's can already fit the 265. The 285 could be even easier since its far shorter and especially so if you are willing to run staggered wheels to take advantage of the wider tire up front.
With an 11 inch wheel width limit, there really isnt much of a reason to try anything wider than a 285 for street tires. Besides the obvious corvette issues under the new proposal, the one thing everyone seems to over look is the RS3, which under the proposal is easily a 500whp car, has a DSG, can fit tires, and could likely do interesting things with diff tuning. |

Please include this in your letter That seems like baby-GTR territory. Also a car that seems like it might be amusing to drive.

Side note: this is the only AWD car I've ever heard of that's available from the factory with a forward-staggered tire setup (255 front, 235 rear). I wonder if that means it wouldn't actually fit mongo tires? https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...gered-2919806/ |

The RS3 doesn't really threaten me much. Its still a $50k+ car if you buy on the used market. Then all the stuff to make it STU trim, prob gonna have over $60k invested... don't think we'll see too many, if any, of those built.
If somebody wants to build it, then great. We'll see what it does and see if its an overdog. |

Experts,
I just recently purchased a 05 STi and would like to setup it as a competitive STU contender. This car already has KW coilover. Wondering what spring rate should I choose for F/R. Thanks for your input in advance. Sammy Last edited by SammyRex; 05-29-2021 at 10:12 PM. |

how competitive, and "contender" ....where? nationally? unfortunately there isn't an easy button there but that said, if you're just locally focused for now you could probably get a reasonable suggestion on where to start with rates, for KW, what clubsports? other variables are sway bars, ride height, rake\balance, camber\caster, sprung/unsprung weights, aftermarket diff front or rear? ...what else?

So I used my SST wheels on my 2011 Subaru GVB in STU and I can confirm that 18x10.5+50 wheels fit, no spacers needed. I used 265/35R18 Yokohama A052's. The rears without a roll had a slight rub, with a roll it would clear no problem. Fronts had no issues.

My 265 set up definitely had room to spare up front without a roll. I even tested it with a 5mm spacer and it was fine. I think my rears would have a problem though. Dunno how it is for the other models with fender and fender liner clearance. I had to ziptie my inner fender liners to the body because they were protruding outwards, but my offsets are +50 which pulls in more than most of the +35 or +45 options I see others running.

Wheels specs are 18x10.5+50
Tires are Yokohama A052 265/35R18 The 10.5's are to get the Yoko's stretched, but you could run 18x10's (+45) with this set up without issue if that's easier to find wheels. I personally searched tire rack for Mustang rear wheels as they were cheaper. |

Anyone know what spring rates are competitive for the GV/GR/VA chassis?
My S2000 runs 16K/11K but since the STI is heavier should it have stiffer springs? Maybe 18K/12.5K? |

S2000 has very different suspension geometry, 18K on a strut car is a lot of spring. I run a 500-600lb (9-11kg) in the front. The GD also has a different rear suspension to your car.
