Post UR Pulley questions concerning torque specs

Recently picked up a pulley/belt set from Trey, and started to install it. Got everything off the front and ready to undo the crank pulley, and started to it. Per the instructions I set the car in fifth, had someone hold down the brakes, and started to use the breaker bar to remove the nut.

Ha. We BROKE a brand new breaker bar trying to unbolt (double checked the directions and everything) it, and promptly decided to set a time to take it to Trey for his magic touch.

Anyone else have this slight problem?

Phil

Also, be very carefull when retensioning the belts.. Ya might strip the tensioner bolts.. Right Midwayman?

You broke a breaker bar??? (And I thought I had a bad reputation)

What size?

Cool

All crank pulley bolts are done up real tight, and they self-tighten too.
A trick I was taught was to put your thickest breaker bar to it and rotate until it met with something solid, like the frame rail or the subframe. Next, with the plug leads off, give it a quick hit on the starter...best torque wrench there is. Just don't stand there with your head over the thing looking at it...

I got mine off today fairly easy using a 1/2 drive breaker bar...
you have to shock it or you'll push all day long...
I had the car in fifth....and my brother hammer on the bar while I pulled it...
hurt the hands but worth it

Starter idea is a good one. After 22k miles mine wasn't that bad though, 1/2 breaker bar + 2 ft pipe and it was off.

I just used a pipe and a lot of yelling. Once you start hearing that metal squeaking sound, you know you're getting somewhere! Don't quit and use $%&*@# power! I had to give up the first time doing it by myself when I had the car in 5th and the brake was held down by my "The Club". It was wedged between my brake pedal and the seat.
