Mine is 2 weeks old and now have just shy of 1K miles on the clock and so far No visible indication of any loss of oil. I'll keep an eye on it as anyone should anyway.

The dealer could also tell you that you have to dress in drag when you gas up but that doesn't mean you have to do it. If you're being told to follow a procedure that is not documented in the owners manual then you're being fooled. If anything happens to your engine because of the excessive oil consumption and you are following the service guidelines your car must be repaired.

The next time your dealer tells you this story tell them to show you where the owners manual says it. They'll probably tell you that it doesn't and that the procedure is "their recommendation" and if they do you need to stand up for yourself and tell them that you will call them to check your oil when you fill up.

Ummm.... Actually the manual says to check your oil every other fillup. And, I know what the dealer says isant gospel, but felt I'd share my experience so other owners with problems can know what different entities involved are saying.
Some of you seem to have ego problems, as though my complaints about my car are insults to you personally. if you're happy with your car, great. I want to be. But when problems like I've been having arise, its hard to not hate the damned thing.

I've got no reason to have an ego in this matter and I understand your frustration. What I'm trying to get across is that you will get a new engine if the excessive consumption causes your current engine to fail.

I will go so far as to say you're stressing yourself out and possibly causing undue stress to others while dwelling on a situation that will either remedy itself or be remidied after repair (or engine replacement). You get loaners, you aren't left walking, and your car is being look at. In reality your gripe should be that the loaners you're getting while they're trying to figure your car out are costing you because they aren't as efficient.

Well I respect your well-put opinion. But I digress.
I don't think I'm stressing myself out. The DEALER and SOA are stressing me out. And I'm not just griping. I'm voicing my very real experiences with the car on an INTERNET FORUM in a thread that's appropriate. I have only said what has happened to me. If you don't like reading about oil problems with a car that's the same as your new shiny pride and joy, there are plenty of other threads and forums.

How much oil was in the car when it was filled up?
How much oil was there left when it was drained?
How much proof do you have? can you give me a Quart per mileage basis to tell us about besides the extreme 6 quarts per 7500 miles? I dont see any real proof besides your light went off and your maybe 1 quart shy?

If you cant answer these then you dont have much to stand on from a "very real experience" then its not valid at all.

Then you shouldnt have an issue answering the questions above?

To summarize you took it in for an oil change thought they filled it too high - told them to remove a quart- in 1k miles the light went off and now you think you are burning oil. did i summarize it correctly?

Regarding checking the oil level every fill-up...

If you *don't* do it, and the engine seizes up, you are going to pay a whole lotta money for a new non-warranty-covered engine.

Regarding 79's 'attitude', I'm a very slightly annoyed because it seems, at times, a bit whiny... THEN I REMEMBER THE $40K POS AUDI WHOSE ENGINE BLEW UP TWICE IN LESS THAN A YEAR, for a total repair cost to me of almost $10,000. (Audi reimbursed me in the end, but I was ready to scrapyard a 6 year old car, rather than pay almost as much as it was worth at the time...)

So, 79, I also sympathize.

A mate just had an issue where his new BMW1300S bike which uses Full Synthetic from go was using 500 to 600ml per 1000kms of oil which continued for 6000kms. When the BM Stealer wasn't able to resolve he had a 3rd party Dyno run which cured the high oil consumption issue immediately, could there be something similar going on here ?

Not that I'm seeing any oil consumption, but if I were, it's simply less headache for everyone involved to just top it off. Thinking back to vehicles I've had, and some that my friends currently have, this is a non-issue in comparison.

I find it funny that people outraged at the thought of possibly having to keep an extra quart around, have no problem paying the dealership $80+ to do a ten minute job.

If serious consumption persists and SOA gives you the finger, have an oil analysis done with 0W20, then do the same with something thicker. Compare and make a decision.

As previously mentioned I'm interested in this thread and that is mostly because it is a concern. The main concern is that SOA is making excuses rather than providing fixes. I sympathize with you and hope that you get the repairs you should get and I'm absorbing your post in case it ever happens to me. Another thing that bothers me is "Severe duty engine" to which I would tell someone to kiss my ass if they provided that as an excuse. I drove the piss out of fork lifts that were operated in the same manner by numerous people 24 hours a day for months at a time. In the AF we were required to check the oil at the beginning of every shift, they never lost oil and got oil changes every 6 months reagrdless of hours. Why an auto manufacturer would try to use that as an excuse baffles me.

Keep posting your results and your interactions with SOA and keep the tactful nature you've managed to maintain - I would've been teach them new cuss words by now...

I've done everything an owner should do and then some. Auskip- we live in different dimensions and I'm sorry you're so offended that I'm pissed off about my car. To answer your quastion(s), I've basically watched everything like a hawk and when problems arise there is a very lackluster response. You make assumptions, sometimes don't even make real sentences, please just piss off if you don't want to contrtibute something other than being a troll.

When problem arise there is a very lack luster response? like putting in more oil?

Im not doubting your dipstick reading abilities but from what i have seen to get an accurate reading i need to let my car sit for +1 hours and then the dipstick reads full if not, i get a mix of low readings. Like 1/2 quart low or slightly lower. This is just what i have observed.

Maybe you should consider this when checking the status of your oil.

Perhaps we are on different dimensions. If you can put up with my sentence structure or lack there of i can put up with your inability to spell.

Also you can drop the whole Ego and Troll bit. Asking those questions provides a logical way of accessing an oil issue. Im still waiting for solid answers like 1 quart every 1000 miles type of deal. (like dealing with SOA) Numbers are my way of believing issues.

The damned dipstick has been read at every conceivable temp range.
My spelling errors are due to the constraints of a keypad that's way too small for my huge hands.
But yet again you respond with unintelligent regurgitation of things that were done or discussed long ago. That's where the trollness comes in.

You know you have to wipe the dipstick off before you put it back in.

Your hands have very little to do with your ability to proof read what you are typing. Once again you fail to take responsibility for your problems. I think there is an Ego issue here.

Those of you with issues, take your car on the highway and wind it out. Either the engine will get the break-in it should have gotten, or you'll burn enough oil for SOA to actually care.

Psst Auskip,
You may want to change "their is and Ego issue" to "there is an Ego issue" before the spelling police come for you!

This is trolling
Proofreading is a long process on a Blackberry. It takes five mins to load a we page. And I'm going to try and block you as you are just a bored lifeless man looking for an argument. Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.

Please share any and all your experiences with this car and feel free to give your honest opinion on it, including if you think your car/dealer/SOA is great/awful.
Make sure you provide accurate (I assume you all have) and full information, which will be useful to others. Don't assume we all read more than 2 pages back (if you do, people will think you provide incomplete information).

At 3400 miles on the OD, the oil level light lit up (again, the first time was around 1600; shortly after which I had the oil changed.) so right now it looks like every 1500 miles I am a quart low...
