Yet Another Reason not to Drive Stupid
Rte 84 westbound in Danbury CT (exit 2) was closed down most of the afternoon and night this past Friday. Reason for the closure
Reckless Driving This guy definitely has a few things to think about, let alone the $500K for bail. Oh, and I am not sure if its a typo on the 4 year old (didn't think they were allowed to give out names for minors), but if it isn't, this guy is even more stupid than I would have originally given him credit for.

"Damn cops have nothing better to do but hassle us for speeding. Go after some real criminals like child molesters and wife beaters."
This is why we enforce traffic laws, folks. If you're afraid to go 15mph over for fear of a ticket, then this crap is less likely to happen. *zzzzzzzzzzzziip* Flamesuit on. |

To be honest, I think this might have been a more egregrious violation than most traffic offenses. Not flaming you here, but if this guy was racing on a publick highway without even a license, I doubt he was worried about a 15mph over ticket. |

One more comment....
Quote:
Why were they in the left lane when the right lane was clear? It's called cruising in the left lane (Left Lane Blocking) and if there was more awareness that it's unsafe and illegal... I would venture an educated guess that the High Speed lane was going to be open and it wouldn't have happened. Cars travelling at high rates of speed cannot change lanes as quick as slower moving vehicles... they need more real estate to initiate the turn-in to the next lane.... so for the fast cars to try changing lanes at a high rate of speed, the center lane must have been clear... WAYY back there.... AND the speeders had a clear view that the center lane was clear to maintain that speed. I'm not defending the actions of these idiots.... but I ABHOR Left Lane Blockers/Squatters. Again... It's sad that something like this happened. Tragic. Could it have been avoided? On many more levels than just saying there were cars speeding. --kC |

wow, this is really really sad...i just don't understand the need of people to drive like asshats and put theirs, and others, lives in danger...
on a related note, i am now glad that i diverted onto 7 south when I came across this back-up on my drive down to PA on Friday night. I couldn't find a traffic update so I decided to just hop on 7 where it splits in Danbury and take the Merritt to 287 instead of waiting in the traffic to try and take 84 to 87 (my normal route)...looks like i may have saved myself some time by diverting and taking the 'scenic' route (the Merritt is more fun to drive anyway )... |

Plenty of people who don't drive fast, but drive carelessly cause plenty of wrecks that are not reported. There are also plenty of people who drive fast that do not cause any problems for anyone.
However, it makes for good soap opera and hence, good press when you run a story about a bad evil speeder wrecking in traffic with a heartwarming ending of a dog being found. Hundreds of accidents happen every day, at slow speeds and fast speeds, because people are just stupid and careless. Quote:

And as Brian mentioned there are left exits in the Danbury area, I believe this occured soon after the rt 7 merge so slower traffic may have been joining into the fast lanes. |

Coming up from a distance behind someone, you can see if the lane to the right of the LLB is clear to make the pass on the right cleanly. I *feel* that it was open or the pass wouldn't have been attempted to the right of the SUV... and if not, the 'speeders' most likely would have just simply braked, and waited... (one would hope anyways) At speeds in excess of 100, you need to start the lane change a good distance behind the guy you're going to pass. I feel that article made it seem like this guy was 'getting out of the way'... but he just did it too late... the speeders were already over in that lane. That's why I'm of the opinion, this guy was squatting in the left lane when he should have been in the lane to the right of it leaving the HS lane open. When you can see the headlights of the car you passed in your rearview mirror, it's clear to move to the right... that's usually 2-3 car lenghts. Is that enough room to make a lane change at 100? To see around the car that was in the center lane that the SUV Passed? I say no it isn't. The car in the center lane would have been blocking the view of the center lane and the pass wouldn't have happened... (Again... all my opinion). IF the SUV had just completed a pass and was moving over, the cars doing 100 wouldn't have had enough distance and time to make ANY maneuver to move over the center lane. Again, I'm not justifying anyones actions in this event. The facts are there was some speed involved in the accident. I'm just not ready to absolve the driver that got hit from 100% of the blame due to what I perceive the situation to have been from reading this one article. I wasn't there, I didn't see it happen. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong. I'm just stating one possible scenario drawing from my own personal experieinces driving in New England... LLBs don't know what they're doing is illegal... and when they decide that they need to move, it's too late. -kC (I wonder if he used his blinker?) |

I totally disagree with you here because you are Monday morning quarterbacking. You have no idea what happened. It's possible this Wheeler guy passed someone, looked in his rearview and saw the ID10T's coming at a high rate of speed and tried to get out of the way by moving right. I'm not saying your wrong and I'm right. I am saying that I hate left lane blockers and squatters also but to bring up any point in the ID10T's favor isn't fair or right. They screwed up big time and now I hope they pay the price. Glad the dog was okay, not much consolation..... |

*hates left lne squatters as well and personally is glad to have one less butthole in an SUV blocking the flow of traffic because they think they deserve it. No, they didnt deserve to die. But I cant say I feel much compassion. Had they not been breaking the law improperly using that lane they would be alive today. 2 People disobeying traffic laws. One much worse than the other, but they were both in the wrong (again, not nearly the same thing but its still a fact) That said, I hope they roast that kid in teh RSX's nuts. Twice. Then death penalty. Last edited by Davenow; 05-02-2005 at 02:51 PM. |
