Who knows maybe the hatch will grow on me; I've seen a couple clean ones running around, I just have no idea what my problem with them is haha.

I doubt most of the people, viewing this thread, would complain if ...

A good rule to go by here would be, if you don't know the difference, it's not worth spending another $1,500 on.

Get a 7D and some lovely lenses.

HA, I was thinking the exact same thing. It seems most people replying to these pics are actually more interested in the "owner" of the Subie.

And when they say, "Girls, let's see your Subarus", we all know what they're talking about.

Of course, I was only joking. That's an awesome price for a brand new MK II. I'd be all over that!

The price difference could, however, result in another lens or two. I shot with a 7D for awhile this summer and was pretty impressed. I could only tell the difference in certain lighting situations and because I'm used to staring at 5D images. It's only when you get nit-picky (read: pixel-peeping) or have perfect, perfect vision (which I'm spoiled with) that you can tell a huge difference.

Hey, I had a couple quick questions for you:

I, like Tino had mentioned, am very new to photography and was curious to know if an SLR is really needed, to get shots like you posted?

A couple weeks ago I spent some time looking into various SLR cameras, but was disappointed by the lower megapixels they offered, when compared to basic point and shoots.

You'll have to pardon my ignorance, but is the megapixel size/amount what matters the most, or is it the lens, etc?

Thank you,

Yes and no. You can see my set on flickr that is all photos from point and shoots including 3 or 4 with my iPhone.

Megapixels are almost a marketing gimmick (definitely when it comes to point and shoots). Focus more on what type of photography you're going to be doing (still? - action? - low light?) and then get the best glass you can (for the most part). For example, I have the 50mm f/1.4 which is awesome. The f/1.8 is the cheapest and does a good job, but I don't think it has any business on a 5D II (think of putting $90 rims on a Murci) and the f/1.2 is the most expensive (about 6x the price of my f/1.4) but I don't think it produces images that are 6x better and thus didn't spend an arm and leg on it. Hope that made sense

Lots of good information out there if you search. A NASIOC member started NSOP and for Canon info, there's POTN.
