Default New Dyno. 06 wrx vf-39 FMIC

First I would like to thank Nathan (for the great tune) and the guys at Pro Power Dyno Service (for their hospitality and great faciltiy). cheers.gif The car feels great, much smoother than before and the added power is noticeable. On Cobb's Mustang dyno I was 251/285 with an APS TMIC. Now 311/332 on a Dynojet dyno. Not sure how much of a increase it is but it does feel much better, maybe 20+ more hp????

With the TMIC were you still using the vf39? With a pro tune how much of a difference do you feel going to the FMIC? I'm debating whether to go FMIC with a vf39 or stay TMIC until I get the Green. Either way nice setup.

EDIT: Sorry let me rephrase that. You already told me you felt maybe a 20hp change. What I meant to ask is what other possibly negative side effects did you notice, like a delay in boost, etc. The only posts I've found searched have mostly been without a retune. Those that did retune usually say there is hardly a difference. Just looking for some comparison.

yes and it was also protuned (at cobb by Christian), honestly I'm not feeling any difference in lag. If you can afford it go FMIC. the vf39 has to work hard to make good boost and (or at least it does at my altitude, WG wide open and I can only hit 18psi) and the FMIC really helps to keep the intake temp down.

It could not have been reading the AFR from the tail pipe, I suspect they did not have a sensor in the dyno wide band.

You will see a good difference between a Mustang dyno and a Dynojet. Dynojet's are made to read 10-13***37; higher than all other dyno's. You can thank harley davidson for that

I thought it was Yamaha and the Vmax back in the 90's .

It was harley that caused this. Their engines didn't make what they wanted so dynojet "adjusted" the software so the power output was higher

O2 wasn't hooked up to dyno, Nathan had his LM-1 hooked up to their sensor. The Dyno also wasn't getting a good signal for boost. The data logs show a more consistent boost #

So it will be a 20 WHP gain, generally speaking, from a FMIC instead of a TMIC? No lag or any other side effects, other than the extra hit to your wallet? Huh.

Nice numbers!

Do not confuse lag for boost threshold. A dyno plot does not show lag, it shows boost threshold. A FMIC will always add lag, it may not be something that bothers you as a driver, but there is always an increase in lag with addtional piping.

Nice numbers.

I like FMIC set up. It's a no-brainer that a front mount configuration facing cool air head-on is going to do a better job at cooling than a duct-fed con fig. The only gripe I have with this set up is not the price, but weight. Damn, these things are hefty.

I've got a WBR FMIC kit waiting to go on the FXT. I was happy when USPS wheeled the box out to me (gee, I wonder why) and was taken by how heavy the unit is. I've checked with APS's DR725 and noticed the shipping weight on that thing is no joke also - 80 lbs.

With a tune I would say it's safe to say that you can get a 20hp gain with a FMIC on a vf39. I'm not feeling a difference in lag (but that could just be me). It's a hit on the wallet; intercooler + intake + tune, but I'm that much closer to being ready for a bigger turbo all I need now is fuel pump (on order) injectors, and a new gear set for the tranny and another awesome tune by Nathan.

I may be wrong but I think the Perrin FMIC only adds about 9lbs when you figure up what you take off to install it.

Yea, I don't that a FMIC adds too much weight as opposed to a TMIC. Yea, the core is quite bigger but that's really the only thing adding weight, as the piping is very light. I would estimate a net +20lbs. max when going from TMIC to FMIC depending on core size.

Back on topic, nice numbers, love the torque of the EJ255 in the 06+ WRXs.
