2004 STi GTX3076R
Rally Blue

Default Scuby04STi's 2004 STi build 2.5 w/GTX3076

Here is a little back story on me/my build:
Back in 2004 my dad purchased a STi as well as an EVO to use at track days; I quickly fell in love with how they both functioned on the track for what they were. We all agreed that stock to stock for a track beater the EVO made more sense with its tight shifter and quick steering response (RS version), so my dad sold the STi and got a few EVO RS's for us to drive as a family. However I always had a soft spot for that rally blue STi and once you toss some "$" at its flaws you can make a MEAN track car, so when I had the choice to buy a 50k mile '04 or my dad's 15k mile EVO RS it was the STi for me (took a lot of heat on this choice).

My build
Car: 2004 STi

Rationalizing the build:

I had a general stage 2 tune with bolt-on basics such as a catless DP, cat-back, intake, front mount, and all the typical things. After being talked into a track day that I DID NOT feel the car was ready for (slight leak in the driver side head) this happened just as I pulled onto the back straight at PIR:
2012-05-31 14.03.40 by Bret Stevens, on Flickr
I was just about to head back to school so I pulled the motor assessed the damage and parked it until I could plan out what to do. So I priced out a stock block, a small stock location turbo with appropriate supporting mods (stocker was toast as well), and the labor to do it. After that gut check moment I made the choice to do the work myself and spend the labor budget on better components. Extremely happy with this choice because I know every nut/bolt on my car now and have just a few more whp then I would have had lol.

Held off on posting too long already, build was back running beginning of summer 2013, but isn't done yet. Still have a few must do mods and a few I might just do for fun. Just learning the pic/video posting process (live in the country) but ill post a few video's once I figure that part out.

I plan to own this car till I die and probably will never be "done" with it, looking forward to seeing what feedback I get about this build. Lots of winter projects to come (pending getting another car), all suggestions are welcome and appreciated. [/font]

Looks great man! Are you still glad you went with the STi over the Evo?

Thank you, and yes still happy with my choice. I like both but only love one, I really like the options for modifying an STi you can do so many different things with no real hard core fab work.

Those numbers are solid man, nice build for sure.
I too plan to keep my car until I die or give it to my kid and to never be done modding it. Its never-ending!
Glad you finally got to post your stuff up.
Keep us updated if you throw on any new mods...

Best I can seem to do as for posting the video as of now, hate links but better than nothing. Love the way it sounds.

Also I figured I would post a picture of the Perrin fuel rail/ line install before that Cosworth manifold got bolted over the top of them.

2013-01-31 22.28.41 by Scuby04STi, on Flickr

Was an extremely easy install, no clearance issues what so ever. Also there was more than enough line/shielding to do the job, probably because of all the possible ways you might need to run them. Only thing I wished was different would have been to have threaded ends in the rails and to use hard lines, but this design makes sense seeing the general application they needed to accommodate.

I'm kind of curious about that drop off on your dyno tune sheet.
Do you feel it when driving the car? It looks like it shoots up quick, drops off and then picks back up again

I can tell its there, not that noticeable seeing its climbing so quick before it drops that little bit. It does that because the plan was to tune for 21 psi, he was tuning it and after the gas tank got under 1/4 the fuel started to warm just enough to make him want to back it down, until a more efficient fuel system was put into place.

The quick easy way to solve that problem was to lower the boost to 18.5 keep the fuel REALLY rich and wait for the surge tank to be designed and put in. I talked to him last week and he said he ordered my pump for the tank so it shouldn't be too long before I can get the re-tune. I didn't need his to waist time on perfecting a tune that was never going to get used again.

So yeah that's a very very safe 424 :-)

I'm anxious to see the next tuning results....What do you think you'll be making next time around?

Yeah I am as well, actually just called and left him a message to figure out when I can get my Surge tank, he was waiting on the pump last I talked to him.

Honestly not sure what it will make I didn't see how it was pulling before he dropped it to 18.5 psi because I was not able to watch the whole tuning process, actually I just dropped off the car and went back to work lol. That is also why I did a general dyno pull at another dyno so I could at least see it on a dyno for fun.

As long as it looks anything like that dyno and pulls they way it does, minus the hump/dip I'm golden. Hate to wish/expect for more when my goals where less than I already got.

No problem, I have pictures of pretty much everything. If there is anything else you would like to see ill be happy to post other pic's, just did not want to post every little thing in the opening post. Would rather post as there is a need/want for it.

As for the front mount, I was REALLY happy with how it turned out. Looks clean with no license plate mount or stupid "delete plate". Between that and the shroud I made for the bottom of the intercooler It looks like a whole different car from the way it was before.

Got to love the small "free" mods.

Thank you, should have more activity with it in the next few weeks. I'm getting a little oil out of the front crank/cam seals and one of those half moons on the valve cover so plan to pull it to fix that before adding the surge tank and the re-tune.

That front mount looks mean! I must agree without the delete or plate slot it looks much better! Can't wait to see what it puts down when you get the surge tank!

I really like what you did to the front bumper. What exactly is it that you're using for the rubber "trim?" And is there anything keeping it from blowing off at high speed or during let's say a car wash?

Its just that, rubber trim. We use it at my work, I took some pictures for another person on here ill post them up tomorrow when I'm on a computer. Nothing is holding it on but its self, i was going to glue it but after washing it and plenty of DD use I chose to leave it how it is. No feedback on car wash tho I hand wash it been a few sense it fit in a car wash. I have not had any issues with it moving at all.

As long as you prep the surface the glue will hold well. And what's the status of the surge tank!

No need to glue

20131125_163110 by Scuby04STi, on Flickr

As for the surge tank the pump came in this week, I will go get it all on my next weekday off (so next week maybe) we are doing inventory so time off depends on that. But I will really try to get out there and grab everything. I am not 100% sure on when I will re-tune now seeing the holidays are creeping up, but if it wont be until mid January I might tighten up a few more loose ends first such as a real radiator.
