Default Will an 05 sti steering rack fit in a 2001 Outback

In my wifes Outback The power steering has been a little jumpy, and slugish lately. It was low on fluid a couple of weeks ago so I topped it off. did not really help. I was changing the thermostat today and I noticed that the boot was tore were it connects to the tie rod. It was leeking fuid from it. I guessing seals are leaking in the rack? I just put in a Q rack in my sti no core credit for me. Anyway have the old rack from it laying in garage. Is there any chance it would fit into the Outback. Anybody know?
Thanks.

If its an 04 STi it will be a direct fit. if its an 05 STi then you'll need to quite a bit more, i.e. subframe swap, etc.

I just swapped in a 2005 STI rack + crossmember in. For fun I held up the 2005 rack to my 2003 crossmember and saw that it would bolt up. You just need two longer bolts for one side. M10x1.25x50mm should do the trick.

05/+ has a different style rack so I'm not sure bolting it up to a earlier style subframe would work perfectly.

The 05+ turbo crossmember would be needed.

Sorry for the lengthy bump, but I just picked up an '01 Outback H6 VDC, and the steering is jumpy also. Is the '04 swap into the H6 model the same direct bolt in as the 4 cyl model? Thanks for any input.
