Default dash lights wont come on

2007 wrx
as I was checking for a switched power source I accidentally touched power and ground together creating a short. now when I turn on my headlights my cluster doesn't light up, hazard buton, radio, and hvac knobs. with the lights off the backlight on odo/trip lights up and temp along with the fog light switch clock and cig lighter. none of my fuses are blown, and it does show 12v. can someone help me out. I have access to all data.

You either blew a fuse (check them with a meter not just visually) or the illumination module.

^^This! I can't begin to count the number of times I had people come in when I worked at C.City saying their radio didn't work but the fuse was good. Visually the fused looked great, but the minute you put a meter to it (checking for voltage on both sides of the fuse) the power wasn't getting through.

Also, did you check both fuseboxes? I can't speak for the Subaru's 100% but on a lot of cars the dash light fuse is under the hood. Is your radio working??? That is also usually on the same fuse (again, on some cars... not 100% sure about Subaru's)

I dis the exact same thing with my '11 STi. I multi metered the under dash fusebox and it was shorted out. ALL fuses were fine but shorted power throughout the box. I had to replace it. Actually I'm selling one on classifieds. Might fit your ride.

Do the turning signals still work on the combination meter?

just in case someone reads this and is confused about checking for voltage.

You cannot read 12v Across a fuse if it is a good fuse. If the fuse is bad, you will see 12v. Or may see 12 V depending on the rest of the circuit.

Voltage is measured from + to -. So put one lead on a solid ground and the other lead to where u want to test for 12V+ If both sides of the fuse are showing 12V+ , the fuse is good.

Or a simple continuity test will prove this 10 times faster by taking the fuse out and putting your meter to Ohms, or resistance, and ensure the fuse is 0 ohms or ( no resistance) if it shows up OL ( Overload - high resistance - Blown fuse!) You can usaully see right away that the fuse metal has been separated anyway haha. Just to use my electrician knowledge of 12VDC automotive electrical.

For future reference. I do not always come on nasioc. It took me 5-6 hours using a multimeter and power probe along with the entire electrical schematic from all data to find out that a switching ground source in the BIU was not functioning due to the short I accidentally made while troubleshooting my blitz turbo timer. I cannot diagnose any electrical problems over the Internet. I just wanted to make it clear that on my 07 the BUI was nothing but a big relay and did not store the key id's for the immobilizer. Thanks for reading. Good luck.

I'm in the same situation. My cluster does not light up and all the needles don't move at all. Everything else works, radio, ac, lights, and all the other lights in the cluster but the issues mentioned. I checked all the fuses and the light turned on my fuse tester. I hooked up my ap to check if it could read speed, rpms, and temp and it does so I guess the speed sensor works. What would be the next step? Take out the cluster and go from there? Need tips on what to do and don't do to not damage my cluster And what exactly am I looking for. The blubs? Does the lighting of the bulbs and the actual movement of coordinate together with them working?

Default STi Cluster Lights Not Turning On

I recently purchased a V9 STi cluster for my EJ207 STi Swapped '02 WRX. I did all the cutting of wires and moved them accordingly and the cluster was working great. I go to start the car a week later and the battery is dead. I bought a new battery and the car starts but the car doesn't do the sweeping motion and the lights don't turn on. Before I start the car I see the CEL, Parking Lights, Parking Brake light, and all the others turn on. And when the car is on I can use my turning signals, flip my high beams, and do all of that but the three circles for my gas, speed, and RPM's won't turn on. I'm incredibly frustrated I didn't do anything to the car since it was last turned on it's just been sitting there and I didn't leave any lights on and this is the first time the battery died on me...

Perhaps the dead battery caused a change in the startup cycle of the gauges and some programming needs to be done. Just a guess. Verify that power and ground are getting to the gauge lights using a meter of test light.

I suggest you check for a bad fuse in the panel under the hood using a test light probe to confirm power is applied. Also check the dash panel. The dash light issue is most likely due to burned out bulbs.

Here is a list of circuits that I think that fuse supplies power to. Lots of choices. If any of these circuits have been worked on in the past that may be a clue to where the trouble (a short) is at. The dome light and radio areas are good suspects. You could install a load, like a brake light bulb (solder a brake light bulb to a bad fuse body) in place of the fuse to limit the current to the short. The light will glow bright due to the short to ground. Then start disconnecting main harness connections to try and make the light go dim or out. That will mean that the trouble is tied to that connection point and you need to follow it to the problem. Having a factory service manual would be very helpful for this problem as it will show you how and where things are connected in the car. Ebay is good place to get one for a good price.
