also not 100% sure what you mean, your tranny already has a hole for the starter bolt, but the eg33 will not accommodate the bolt, so just running a quick tap through the existing hole is sufficient

Wink

Oh...ok.. so instead of tapping the g33(which doesn't have a hole for the bolt) you just tapped the tranny and to a larger size and used a shorter bolt.

Loving this thread. I just discovered the eg33 swaps and I think they are awesome. I would love to do a gc swap. where did you get the eg33 from? What would be some good sources for me to find one?

Thanks

Epic Build! Videos of it running needed

Do you have room to get to timing components once the motor was in place? Or do you have to pull the radiator if you wanted to go down there. What did you do with the motor mounts?

timing belt could be done easily with the motor in the car.

used the ej25 motor mounts, and it dropped right in

took about 100kms of driving to get the bugs out, but now it drives awesome, tons of torque. acceleration is very uniform which makes it deceiving. it doesn't have that rush when a turbo would kick in. you can mash the gas at any rpm and it just starts pulling. very similar to my old mustang

nice, because the old ej205 was very anemic. I grew tired of having to stomp on it just to pull out into traffic.

I've always wanted to see how a Subaru h6 built for turbo would do.

I know there are/were factory turbo'd ones but they didn't put out as much power as they should from what I've seen and read.

So you two have to flip a coin. The loser has to do the turbo build. Cams, pistons, rods, and whatever else. Fair right?

That would be a sick build though.

H6 turbo... It's been done.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=959768

EG33 turbo, it's been done. Mostly in the aircraft industry though.

EG33's NA can get 350whp (which is beastly). In turbo form it's a monster, but keep in mind, it's got more displacement than a supra or a skyline, so we're talking a pretty big snail here (or 2).

But just think, reliable 600whp subaru?

well I do have an Holset he351w turbo, sitting in the trunk of my wrx. But installing that will be down the road. I will need to get the fuel system up to par first, and the turbo as an rpm sensor I would like to tap into.

boost could be an option in the future. possibly with low mounted twins. first step for me is getting a megasquirt up and running, because the stock ecu leaves much to be desired.

Awesome!

I just feel like the h6 got left behind but has soooo much unknown potential.

You gotta think. The current 2.5L can run 300, 400, and even 500whp. All from a four cylinder.

The h6 can make that reliably like someone said. So it could see 700whp in theory and still have room or more power. Correct?

Which is why I'd like to start seeing some more h6 builds. Those coupled to an STI 6mt would just be a dirty set-up. Especially in an older impreza body, like the 93-01 coupes. ::drool::

One of the two recent swap people in this thread were saying how the h6 just pulls at any time. Now imagine that with like 400 more whp and turbo'd! Too bad I'll never be able to afford a crazy swap like this. So I'll just have to wait and see if anyone does it. Which I'm sure people already have but not well documented.

the problem with building a crazy eg33 is:

A) engine management. you'd have to run a standalone for sure.

B) internal engine parts. crankshaft is good, any sti rods will work, but pistons have to be custom made. aside from that its all fabrication. but if you had the fabrication skills to move the rad forward, you could probably build a turbo set up.

Well... Bore to 99.5 and use any aftermarket pistons for an EJ25... That's what I want to do in my SVX.

Idk, lol.

I think I was thinking of the legacy's that were turbo'd, and related them to the legacy's that have the h6. Somewhere those two thoughts combined for my incorrect statement above.

As a side question, do the legacy's that have the h6 use a 6mt at all? Or are they all auto's?

In the UK and Aus there are 3.0L Spec B's. US only has the 2.5 turbo Spec B's.

You'd have to if you had 0 idea of how to tune an ecu. The stock ecu is almost limitless with user intellect.

yeah you say that, but just like when you replied to me in the h6 resource thread you never actually provided any info.

reasons i want to run megasquirt specifically are:

- no more MAF sensor
- extremely simplified wiring for a cleaner install
- boost control
- extremely low cost compared to competitors
- a sense of DIY accomplishment
