Default How much should a 60K or 75K service cost?

Wanted to know how much a 60K or 75K whichever it is should cost for the Forester. I am talking about a 98 Forester here.

Please help.

Sorry, I'm not there yet (47k on mine).

I guess it depends. The timing belt isn't required until 105k, with an inspection at 90k.

Well, it really depends on what you're having done. If you do just the recommended stuff in the owner's manual, it should run you around $400 or so.

Let me check my receipt at home and check what I paid. I do my own oil and air filter changes so I had the dealer discount that.

We don't get that technical here. Anything Forester related is okay here.

As for the services... I haven't paid for one of them! If you can change your own oil and have at least a small assortment of metric tools, you can pretty much do everything yourself, with the exception of the timing belt. That I will leave to a pro (if I still own the thing at 105k, which I doubt). Fuel filter is easlily changed and accessable under the hood. Plugs & wires are a snap (take out the washer fluid bottle to get to the two on the drivers side!). Air filter. What else is there? Tranny fluid? Same as changing your oil pretty much, only don't use oil, use tranny fluid . Diff oil? Piece of cake.

Unless of course you live somewhere that doesn't allow you to work on it, or you just don't fell like it. I have been there before too!

Now that I think about it, $400 isn't all that bad, when the plug wires cost $80 from the dealer, $5 for an oil filter, $10-$30 for oil (dino or synth), $10-$30 for tranny fluid... Now you gotta take the spent oil somewhere, etc.etc.etc...

'98 Forester = DOHC = not a snap.

Ok then. How much would it cost to change the timing belt (both cost for the belt and labor). I want to make sure my father did not get ripped off.

Oh and on another note I did post this question in the service fourm but nobody replied.

If I remember correctly, it's 3 hours labor plus about $80 for the belt. So, it should be around $300 plus tax.

Edit: My dealer ocassionally sends me coupons to replace the timing belt for $244.
