Question Potential AWD Dyno in Philly Area

A local performance shop is thinking of installing an awd dyno and is trying to gauge area enthusiast interest in it. The dyno would be located approx 15 miles north and west of the Philadelphia border.

The question is how many dyno runs (not days) would you think you could use in a year's time?

MCU81 i attend Duquesne U. in Pitt, but i live in Yardley... Are you goin home for Thanksgiving? And BiGjon, i think they should just do it... EVo, SUbaru, Porsche, Audi... there should be enough enthusiasts...

Yeah, I'm also tired of driving so far away to get dyno'd. I tend to go once/year on average.

I have heard that AWE is hard to get into. Also they really just want to cater to the VW and accopmaning makes. Don't get me wrong they are very good and I would recomend them.

But the person Jon is talking about is extremly friendly and really wants to see all people excel. For just a small hint this person and his shop have built a few of the top dog scca race cars. 2 of them took first place in their respective classes.

To quote him if i may and Jon could back this up. "We are not a parts supplier. We will take a look at what already exists and get it to work right on the dyno. We wont sell an engine." This philosophy has paid off. He had mentioned he has people as far from colorado and south dakota coming in to his shop.

I hope that he does get this awd dyno. I know I will be there.

im sure it owuld be worth the extra $$ to get hte AWD dyno, there will always be a market for it, and car manufactureres are starting to make more AWD cars. besides, AWD dyno's can still be used as 2WD dynos...

i here theres potentialy another going up in my area..but if the AWD dyno falls thru..they are still putting in a 2WD dyno. this would be more for the southern Chester/Lancaster, PA area poeple.
but i have only heard a shop is opening up soon, i thought this post might have been for it..but the location doesnt match.

Hey another AWD dyno would be great, also if or when they get it they should set up contracts with other local tuners to be able to use there dyno (rallispec tunes my car only as of now). Couple qs. I have though if you can answer-

where?
when?
from what ive read above these guys have experience tuning?
I imagine it would be a dyno pack type deal?
whats the shops name, and can I contact them now? (im always interested in visiting new shops)

Thanks man....O and AWE there cool guys but they have the german car stick in there butt pretty far, and refuse to tune anything else. So a tuner that can tune for what you want (performace/reliabilty etc etc) would be great, and they would see my face often...

Not going to get angry with anybody's comments, but AWE has been more than helpful to me on MANY occasions. They just refuse to touch anything that they are not 100% comfortable with. Do you want XYS Subaru Specialist tuning your S4? I think not. Likewise, why on earth would they even want to look into Subaru or DSM or Mistubishi or etc... tuning when they already have their hands full with VW/Audi and Porsche?!

Anyway, I have been a in a bind numerous times and, as a Subaru owner, they have helped me out tremendously. Likewise, my best friend has an S4 and the service they give their customers is uncanny. One time, they shipped him a set of pedals in the wrong color-- the guy asked if it would be okay to drive to his friggin house on his way home from work to correct the problem - it's like 30 minutes away!

Anyway, I'm going for my dyno on Monday - just 3 pulls to get a baseline for $120.00. Can't beat that. Again, more dyno just = more competition, so I applaud anybody looking to do it, but felt AWE should get a little more love, even if they won't touch our cars with a 10 foot audi pole.

Phoenixville is not 15 miles north west of Philly. It is more like 35 miles northwest of center city.

Once again, Bill, your posting speed is far ahead of your reading comprehension. If you reread my initial post, I said 15 miles from the NW Philly border.

This shop has a lot of experience tuning a certain brand of RWD cars on a portable 2wd dyno. (Very cool!) They are specifically looking to learn more about tuning STis. Other car types would have to bring their own tuning expertise at this point in the plan, so it would be a rental of the facility.

Not a Dynopack, this dyno would be a full-blown, in-the-ground dyno similar to the Superflow. http://www.superflow.com/autodyn/awd.htm

Bill and Shak have given some clues to the shop’s identity, but he is not interested in getting calls now. The target for installing the dyno would be sometime early next year.

Yes, AWE has a reputation for not being easy to get time on their dyno. I’m guessing they are heavily booked with their own work. The proposed dyno would be primarily for rental, so scheduling outside people would be a priority.

Becasue it hasn't happened yet. And he's not looking for phone calls yet.

The question was "how many runs?", not "should we do it?" So far the response has been light.
