After using 9s I wouldnt go back. Obvoiusly you can still do well even on 7.5s but driving on 245s on 9s simply feel worlds better than on a smaller rim.

If you are planning on running different tires for the street and for autocross, go with the 9". If you are not fully prepped otherwise, your money is better spent elsewhere in the beginning, like exhaust, suspenion, tune.

I notice nobody running ALKs, did I miss something the rule book? I intrepreted the whiteline ALK as a bushing change to gain some caster. Its not an adjustable lower control arm. I don't think.

It's changing a 'non-moving' suspension mount point, I believe. At least, I'll say that this is what I've been told. You can replace the actual bushing w/an offset one, but an ALK is more than just a bushing.

The alk changes the bushing housing as well. Whiteline does sell a offset bushing you can put into the stock housing to gain the caster while remaining legal.

I will have to look at it, but my understanding is that the offset is prohibited also. If you are a cheating bastard you can always use a mount from a Forester. Looks stock and does the same thing as an ALK. I have heard a few people mention that is makes bump steer worse though.

What ride height should I shoot for? I'm lucky, I live 10 minutes from a place that will corner weight the car. I haven't installed the coilovers on the STi yet because the weather keeps flipping from spring to winter. I know on my civic I only went about 1.5 inches below stock. I was figuring about the same on the STi would put me in the ball park. What I did when I installed my civic coilovers was take the stock strut measure it, then set the coilover roughly 1.5 inches shorter. Then since I have nearly perfect(with in a 1/4) flat garage floor I measured from the top of the fender to floor on all four wheels to make sure the car was even.

DrewSTi,
What size tire did you plan on running? That will have a little bearing on how low you can go. But 13.75"-14" front and 13.5 rear should be a good ride height for ya. Aim for 14" front if you are running 245/45's. Those numbers are center of wheel hub to fender. |

ok cool, because the coilovers are used and I had to break them down and clean them so I don't have the height settings they came with. BTW do you run with CART? I was gonna try to make it down there this summer.

No not anymore. I did about 2 years ago but I have since moved from CT. Last I heard, they lost the lot they used to race at for this year and are currently looking for a new lot to race in. Keep an eye on their website for info. As far as making the trip from MA...thats your call...Im pretty sure they dont run an STU class and they dont really follow SCCA rules and their events arnt run very well.

Ok I need a bit of help. I had a small incident at a race this weekend and my rear control arms, endlinks, sway bar mounts and possibly trailing arms on the right rear now look like bananas. I figured I might upgrade a few of these pieces over stock since they need to be replaced but I want to make sure I'm within the rules. Most of the aftermarket pieces I've seen are adjustable but I think the rules state that that you cant have the adjustable lateral links if you have camber plates. So what exactly are my options? Should I just buy stock pieces and be done with it or upgrade while I'm in there?

See if you can locate a used set of stock lateral links and have these pressed in, part# 19.7101: http://energysuspension.com/pages/subaru.html

I'd do stock endlinks with better bushings. Then do camber plates up top in the rear. I have the super-adjustable rear endlinks and were I to do it all over again, my choice would be what I am recommending for you.

Happens sometimes. I was really pushing at one autocross and tried to save a spin and almost put it into a bunch of trees. They were coming really fast and once I figured it wasn't worth saving and that I wasn't going to save I put both feet in. Missed them by 10 feet. Make sure to look for additional damage while under there, you don't want a mechanical failure to cause additional damage. Good luck.
