I was looking at plasti dips website at a pdf they had with ideas. And there is an idea on there that I thought was great... coat the outside of the tire iron so you don't scratch your wheels when taking your lug-nuts off!

I have had PD on my front and rear bumpers and wheels on my 2010 Dodge Power Wagon for over a year now and I have had one hell of a time off-road in that truck places a Subaru wouldn't think of going and it is still holding up amazingly well you just need put enough thick coats on and it will last

Guys, seriously, chill out. Unless you've had direct experience with Plastidip, only speak in the hypothetical. If you haven't used it the only things that are permissible are statements like "I don't think it would hold up well".
But you'd still be wrong. They hold up awesome. Mine held up for 7 months through Utah winters which entail encounters with snowbanks, constantly being assaulted by road salt and other things. I've used pressure washers no problem. I peeled it off because it started to get sketchy in areas, and then did it again. |

I did the wheels and badges on my gf's xterra this last weekend. It was more of a trial run to see if we wanted to actually paint them or not later on. We'll see how long they hold up up here in Washington weather.
Definitely looks better than stock though. |

For just seeing how it would look, plastidip rocks. Not permanent, but that's the whole idea. |

I finally removed the plastidip off of my wheels after 6 months. They lasted the whole time and looked pretty good the whole time. The fact that I didn't spray the whole rim was the only reason I probably had to remove it. The edges started to peel off just a tiny bit at a time, so it ended up looking not as crisp around the edges and that was just annoying me.
The plus side: the rims are SUPER clean underneath, if nothing else, the plastidip kept my rims looking brand new an extra 6 months. I think that if I had sprayed the whole rim and had put on more (and thicker) coats (probably a can per rim) it would have held up better. I ended up driving through some really rough storms for about 1200 miles in 2 days and that kind of killed the plastidip. But it held up for the 6 months before that. It works great for figuring out what the rims will look like painted, and is pretty cheap and not very time intensive. I would suggest doing this to anyone who is skeptical. If you do it right, it could last for years (as lots of people have said on here). |

Thank god. Rims where people try to make a "lip" on a rim that doesn't have a good lip just looks horrendous.

Also, rattle can isn't permanent either. It can also chip or flake off, just not as easily as plasti-dip, depending on the wellness of prepping and clearcoat. If anything, powdercoating lasts the longest (also not permanent) and has less chances of fading, but costs the most to do usually. |

No matter how many vouch for the durability of PD, people will still have doubts. Looking forward to seeing more wheels that are painted different colors than black (by people more creative than me so I can copy them). I'd like to see white, and different mixes of colors and metallics. Note cards are much cheaper. Last edited by War Bunny; 04-18-2012 at 09:25 AM. |

Looking to paint my 06 rims that I use for my winter set on my 2011. The car is satin white pearl, any ideas on color. I was thinking maybe a dark blue, something fun, but not stupid. I've been thinking of the plasti dip, but I didn't see it in blue when I was on the site

One little tear can basically translate to a whole rip so imagine if a metal tool scraped it. Again, possible to preserve but the tech will have to be extra careful. But even if that happened, just respray. That's part of the convenience and pro/con of Plastidip. I tried Plastidip on random plastic parts to see what the hype was all about. If you're looking for a quick fix that basically costs less than a Happy Meal at McDonald's, it's the right thing for you. I was unhappy with the semi-sticky/tacky feel of the surface afterwards and double didn't like how I had to tip toe my way around it, in fear of scratching off the surface or creating a tear. Furthermore, every little dust particle will fly to the Plastidip surface. I'm not hating on it--some guys definitely dig the stuff. I just find it funny that so many people regail Plastidip but then make fun of other people who "rice" out their cars. From a certain perspective, Plastidip is very rice. |

Well, I don't know if it was the Texas sun or what, but I am having to repaint my 2005 Gold BBS due to plastidip.
I sprayed 5 good layers on of black last year. It took me about 7 hours yesturday to get it all off. It had gone dry and VERY stuck on well. I had to use a light abrasive pat to get them off which unfortunately lightly damaged my gold BBS. Still looks great, but I will never do this again. I had been warned not to leave it on more than a few months in the 100 degree weather, but meh. Lesson learned. It did hold up extremely well though! Just came off no where near as easily. Goof Off helped too. |

I dipped my stockers over Christmas and they have held up very well. Yeah, they get dirty and whatnot but arent a pain to clean off. It serves as an extra layer of protection for wheels and adds a look of customization to your whip. +1 for plastidip
