News 2015+ Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX/STi Perfect Fit Subwoofer Enclosure Prototype Build

2015+ Impreza Sedan WRX/STi Perfect Fit Subwoofer Enclosure Prototype Build - Ideas and Feedback Wanted!!

Some long time members may remember us from before, we offer a variety of fiberglass subwoofer enclosures specifically designed for the 2001 - 2014 Subaru Sedans, Wagons and Hatches. I'll be posting a new For Sale Thread with current models and prices in the Vendor For Sale Section
Please direct any sales related questions there.

Just got this 2019 in the shop to start the build on a new subwoofer enclosure model, looking for some feedback on the overall size/design as well as a little help with verifying the trunk interior panels between the other years.

Trunk Panel Verification

From what I've been told the 2015 - 2020 Impreza Sedans WRX/STi's have the same interior trunk panels, the pic below is a 2019 STi passenger side panel. Looking for other members with the other years & models (2015 - 2020) of the Impreza Sedans to post a similar pic of their passenger trunk interior panel on this thread here or you can email us directly at [email protected] In order for the enclosure to work in other model years the interior panel has to be identical, any help with this verification would be greatly appreciated!

Prototype Build Design/Ideas

Overall the trunk space is less than previous years, especially concerning height. With the interior panel made to accommodate the trunk hinge arm there isn't enough room for a 12 inch model without it sticking out into the cargo space considerably. A 10 inch and possible 8 inch model looks to be the best bet, I usually try to shoot for the largest size when designing any new model. I don't know if there may be some interest in an 8 inch version as well or if the majority would rather just run a 10??

Below are pics of our SI1008 ( 08-2014 Subaru Sedan WRX/STi 10 Inch Perfect Fit Subwoofer Enclosure). Overall design and size would be similar most likely for both a 10 and/or 8 inch version. The slightly elongated mounting baffle allows for a bit easier fiberglass layup during production and gives room on the sides for a grill (pictured). This model fits the driver's side since there was a bit more room for subwoofer depth. The 2019 has identical sides, many customers in the past have requested passenger side models for weight distribution so the proto will be designed to fit the passenger side.

b

Any feedback, ideas, concerns and questions are welcomed and appreciated! More pics to come once it starts taking shape!

Thanks - Todd

What price range are you looking @ Charging? There are 2 other companies doing such a box.. one is wood, the other is Fiberglass. They are ranging from 300 to 400 depending on options.. I decided on just using a cheap wood enclosure that I can remove, as that price point was more cost than your average subwoofer.. rather pay for a non custom box for 200 less and get a better sub or amp.. depending on the price I might like to get some trunk space. Good luck.

I would definitely be interested based on price, I agree with the previous post that the box costing more than the sub seems a bit excessive, but I also understand that fiberglass work is not easy.

Here's a link to a site that can do a 12" enclosure that they say will support a JLW6

I have a 2019 STI Limited with the HK system if you need any pictures, let me know

I'd like to keep all the 10's the same price as other models, same with the 12's just so there is a standard. Each model has a different cost due the fiberglass work. Unfortunately my cost have just continued to rise drastically since we started in 2005, we haven't adjusted our retail price to compensate for that increase but may have to going forward.

Originally doing this type of custom "one off" subwoofer enclosure build in a vehicle we'd have to charge considerably more for all the time involved. We were able cut that down a ton when we started the enclosure line with molds but the glass work is still very time consuming.

I'm not a huge fan of their overall design or the fact they use the same enclosure volume for a 10 or a 12.

A 12 inch model is doable yes, probably have to limit the size of the sub to entry or shallow mount models though or the enclosure would protrude into the cargo area considerably. The 10 I'm starting with should fit most sub manufactures entry to high end models. Obviously it won't work for ever 10 inch sub ever made but should be able to accommodate the majority of them.

You should have the same passenger side trunk panel then correct?

Not knocking the thread but seems silly now that the next gen wrx/sti will be dropping in the next 8-12 months.
Where were you guys the past 4.5 years I was looking for an enclosure?

Agreed, late with getting a model out that's for sure. Unfortunately life happened, just wasn't in a spot to tackle new models. I'm on the 5th fiberglass company now, each one raising their costs to the point it wasn't worth doing. Wasn't sure if it was going to make sense to keep bringing new models out at that point.

After working with a new company and seeing there still wasn't many good options out there I figured we better tackle one again!

Nice box!

I would definitely be interested. 10" would be more than sufficient to move air around the trunk space.

The hard work of creating a prototype is already done. Have you made a mold out of the box already?

I'm still working on the prototype for our enclosure line, will post pics up once it's further along. Have some work out of town to tackle for a few days unfortunately.
