Default Smoke on start up

Ok kind of a weird situation I've done a lot of research and I'm doubting its a ring land issue but its possible. It's an 06 sti stage 2 and occasionally after boosting i get blue smoke on the next start up. I also think I'm hearing some excess valve train noise but i might just be paranoid. I'm leaning towards valve seals or a Pcv issue because i did a compression test and all cylinders were between 139-141 psi but i noticed on both passenger side plugs the threads of the plug were wet with oil but the burning area looked fine just like the other side. Any ideas? Thanks

Been in the same boat, first time i got smoke from exhaust, my turbo was shot. How many miles on the turbo? when my vf39 went out i had smoke from the exhaust on cold starts especially following some pretty ugly sounds coming from the turbo when driving.

If its not the turbo it could be a bad Headgasket, or piston failure. I recently had symptoms of a bad HG and my shop told me it was a piston was shot. I would first scope out the turbo and if thats ok take it to your mechanic and get it checked out.

Probably just pcv clogged or blowby if it was your ringland you would see alot more and it would smoke worse as it warmed up.

The car has 70k original turbo it has been making an air noise under boost intermittently not a bearing noise but it sounds like i have an intake and i have a stock air box its not a bearing noise though

After driving i just realized if i start my car up and drive normal it sounds perfectly fine, after i boost a good amount the air induction/recirc valve noise and valve train or exhaust leak noise comes and stays for the rest of the drive. If it was a turbo going would it smoke under boost as well as start up because i have no smoke under boost.

It's a catch 22 with a turbo and with your situation only a visual inspection will verify.

Yes you will get smoke on startup if your turbo is worn. You can take off your turbo inlet and wiggle the shaft a little to check.

What about just checking the hot side? Is checking both necessary?

Also was this fixed?
