'How to' twin turbo swap 2nd gen outback
Just getting this thread started. I did this swap last winter and have put 15k miles on it so far and is running fine. Fun to drive, even though there are haters who will tell you that the VOD is the worst.....it's not that bad. It gets 25mpg, is quick out the gate, and loves 80+mph. This is my first ever motor swap/build. My previous experience level was regular maintenance on my own vehicles for the last 25 years, and a few head gasket jobs. Both successful. I learned a lot from this, including how to mig weld, and you can too. It's really not that hard, you just need to get creative with the up pipe and down pipe fabricating.
Step 1 Go find an entire front clip, I found mine on eBay. It was $1500. I live in Breckenridge, CO. The clip was in Virginia. My family lives in West Virginia, so I drove there for thanksgiving, picked up the clip and drove it back......on a trailer. I pulled it with 2003 outback limited, automatic, 230k miles on the drivetrain, and a trailer you can get at tractor supply. https://photos.app.goo.gl/h9RBz7TQXKJDDbXZ2 Step 2 Get everything squared away, your work area, car washed, anything you can think of to make your life easier.

I don't use Google Drive or whatever, but there's some trick you have to do to embed the photos in a forum. I imagine if you google for it (ha!) you can find the method that works.
As it is now, I can't see the image that you tried to embed. |

This sounds awesome. Can it be tuned on the stock ecm? I've heard that tuning can help with the VOD

Haven't gotten that far yet, sooner than later though. But yes, I have read in the UK and Aussie forums that it's possible. Tune is only good as the guy/gal doing it, so I've heard as well.
