Yeah, not 100% that loosening the adjuster will work, but it might... I see heat, 8mm bolts and a BFH in this guy's future.

Prolly not if the shoes are stuck to the rotor... hammer time!

But I don't know how comfortable the OP is with doing brake work. Before he could remove the rear rotors to expose the parking brake shoes (using your two-bolt technique), he would also need to remove the main calipers and pads. He will need to decide if he's comfortable with that process.

I got them unstuck!!! I took off the ABS fuse and rocked the car a bit without turning it on. They broke free right away!

Nice!

Why did you have to remove the fuse?

Well, I rocked the car at first for a while but it wouldn't budge. Then I took off the ABS fuse and turned the key on and off a couple of time. Rocked it again for a bit and CRACK. The brakes came unlocked. I then put the fuse back on and now it's fine. I think the fuse had something to do with getting them unstuck

My guess is that they would have gotten unstuck even if you hadn't removed the fuse, but I could be wrong.

Regardless, good job.

I'm looking for new pads for my 04 STI's 90k service time. It's my DD probably looking at sintered pad. I'm not looking for specific suggestions (unless you want to suggest some), but rather a yelp for break pads.
Can anyone point me in the correct direction?

KNS Brakes (vendor WRXBrakes on NASIOC) has a lot of pad options and knows a lot about what they sell. Give them a call and they can both suggest and sell you a pad that fits your needs.

Ok, I have been noticing on my 14 Sti sedan that there is ALOT of break dust on the front wheels and the brakes also sound like there grinding? Car only has 10k on it. No track days just DD. Will different pads fix this? Idle the breaking power but dirty rims right after I wash the car***128546;. Thanks for the help.

Your car is still under warranty. Let the dealer check it out first.

Default Brakes on a Budget

So I got laid off this last month and now have to do all 4 rotors and pads on my new/used 2010 STi wagon, but am on a budget. I am currently running bone stock and basically just doing aggressive street driving in a major city. So with that being said, I need to find the best replacements for the price and my current usage. Was hoping I could get some help from you guys on this, as I have searched the net so much and have come across nothing exactly useful. Any particular thoughts on this: https://www.knsbrakes.com/c/car-seri...mic+Brake+Pads or any other recommendations?

Package seems overkill for you. Check reviews on the pads too. City driving may not fit the hawks. Email kns for advice.

I run centric premium and stop tech street pads; love it. YMMV

On a budget, I think you could go with the Centric Premium rotors and the Centric Posiquiet pads.

If you wanted to save even more money, the Centric Standard C_Tek rotors with the Centric Posiquiet pads would be the next option.

Default constantly replacing brakes

shortly after I bought my 06 Impreza I did pads and rotors on the front and rear I've had no issues with the rear brakes however the fronts seem to keep going through pads.. Shortly after I out the front brakes on (2,500 miles) my pads started squeeking and then shortly after that nocking around I then replaced pads and rotors and hardware again and still have the same issue each time I used brake grease anyone have similar issues ? I'm on my 3rd set of pads rotors and hardware on the front luckily under warranty

Default Upgreading my 2004 wrx brakes

I want to upgrade my brakes, I believe the current setup is original OEM. I will only be street driving. I have read all about how my tires are what stops the car not the brakes but I want to upgrade my brakes system and will have good tires so I need to know what is best for a street driving upgrade over stock on a 2004 wrx. Do I really need big brake? and if not what would a good quality set-up. thanks!

No big brake kit necessary for street only. In fact, it will just cause more headache and make maintenance more expensive. Stainless brakes lines will help improve pedal feel and modulation. Bleeding/flushing the fluid every year will keep the crisp, tight feel from fading over time. I like the stop tech street performance pads. They feel as good or better than stock on initial bite and should hold up to anything you will throw at them on the street. Even the occasional track day is fine unless you are making significantly more power than stock. Cons are that they wear rotors a bit faster than stock pads and apparantly can cause some corrosion issues on rotors if you let it sit for extended periods without driving.

Centric Premium rotors are a great OEM type replacement rotor. StopTech pads are good, but we've been having a problem with them. People tend to get them based on recommendation and not based on application and their own driving style. Lots of people who have gotten then don't necessarily drive the car hard. If you have the StopTech pads, they like to be used often and hard. When they're underused they are prone to uneven pad deposits. I get 3-4 phone calls a week about it.

Lots of people have been using the newer Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. They are definitely way better than the original HPS pads. We have them installed on our bone stock 02 WRX.

how do the Hawk 5.0 pads compare to STSP pads in terms of:

1. Price
2. Initial Bite
3. Dust

i've been using the STSP pads on my 2010 WRX (with FHI 4-pots) for well over 100,000mi. I really like the price/performance. the only thing I don't like is the dust. they get very messy quickly.

front pad life seems to be about ~30,000mi
front rotor life about ~60,000mi (i replace rotors every other pad change).
rear pads lasted about 55,000mi
havent replaced the rear rotors yet.
