Is the 07 legacy 6 speed the same as the 07 sti 6 speed w/o dccd?
Are the gear ratios the same? |

*** There may be a difference between the 05 axles and the 02-04 axles on the WRX. There may have been a change to the axle and some 05 wrx might be able to use their stock axles. I have not verified this, just read some threads suggesting it.
Has there been any verification of this info? I am in the middle of ordering my parts and am curious if this is true. |

The 05 axles have stubs on them that slide into the tranny. The 02-early 04 axles don't have stubs....the stubs are on the tranny itself. The axles slides onto those stubs and a pin locks in place.

My 6 sp swap is almost complete until I realized that the $1100 Drive Shaft shop axles do not have the metal covers near the diff. This suck because without that the seal will not last very long.

06 WRX's have a 3.70/1.0/3.70 R&P
06 STi's have a 3.90/1.1/3.54 R&P For 6MT swaps into a 2006 (unsure about 07) WRX, you need to change to a 3.90 R&P if installing a 04-05 6MT or a 3.54 R&P if installing an 06 6MT. Last edited by solarin006; 05-31-2007 at 02:36 AM. |

What do I need to do for my clutch setup on my 06 WRX since they changed engagement styles in 06? To run the hubs I need the STi rear brakes but not the front? Do I need brembo's up front to run the front hubs? Can I just do an STi BBK instead? |

05 STI's have a 3.90 R&P (in an r180 diff)
You'll need to swap slave cylinders, clutch fork and run an STi clutch. To run 5x114.3 STi hubs in the rear, you'll need either STi rear brakes or 5x114.3 compatible aftermarket brakes (i.e. not WRX brakes). Also 5x114.3 bolt pattern wheels, STi axles, r180 rear end, and STi driveshaft. However you can run stock wheels/axles/brakes if you change the ring and pinion in your r160 diff and run a driveshaft from an auto. To run STi hubs up front you'll need STi front brakes or compatible aftermarket brakes (not WRX), STi axles. However I think the 06's have male axles, you'll need to research which 6MT tranny you have as to whether it'll hook up or if you can convert it. Last edited by solarin006; 06-01-2007 at 05:42 PM. |

I wonder if I can just swap the 07 sti 3rd and 4th gear into my 04 tranny, as it seems all the other gears are the same.

I swapped an 04 STi tranny into an 06 WRX. Reused my stock 06 axles, but they kept popping out of the tranny...
Switched to 04 STi axles, but now my ABS doesn't work and they were a real bitch to get in... :-/ Anyone else gone this route? |

So i have a question about my late 04, or 05 STI trans swap into my 03 wrx. can i use the STI male CV shafts with my front hubs? or do i have to get the stubs from the dealer and use my WRX CV shafts? I thought i may have read somewhere that STI CV shafts can be used on the front, just not the rear.
Thanks in advance Jon |

I am trying to find out what exactly is involved in doing a tranny swap from a 07 Legacy Spec B into 06 WRX.
Here are some questions i have: Will I need Legacy's rear Diff? If so, what Diff does the Legacy comes with? Will I have to use a different drive shaft? If so, which one? If i do have to change the rear DIff in order to accomodate the Legacy's tranny, will i have to change the rear axles/hubs and brakes? 6 spd manual, spec.B only 1st 3.636 2nd 2.235 3rd 1.521 4th 1.137 5th 0.891 6th 0.707 final 3.454 Ok, I will start a parts list for this swap and you guys please correct me if i m wrong and also tell me what i need to add or take off the list. 2007 Legacy Spec B 6MT tranny swap into 2006 WRX: 1)2007 Legacy Spec B 6MT trasmission 2)SPT 6-speed short throw linkage 3)6-speed shift knob, STI lower dash peace with STI boot 4)2006 automatic trasmission drive shaft (please correct me if i am wrong) 5)6-speed clutch fork (please correct me if i am wrong) 6)STi slave cylinder (please correct me if i am wrong) 7)Reuse stock 2006 WRX rear Diff 8)Reuse Stock 2006 5-speed WRX clutch Please confirm the above parts are correct or if i need to add additional parts THanks The reason I prefere to do the Legacy's Spec B tranny swap over the STI's is because it does not have the DCCD and the tranny itself is cheaper. Please help, any comment welcomed. Thanks. |

Curious if anyone can point me to a swap thread regarding a 2007 USDM STI into a 2003 (or equivalent) USDM WRX. Looking to keep the factory r160 as well.

My question is whether a tranny from a 98 legacy will accept an RA gearset and fit in my 03 WRX without a problem? I need a tranny soon, and I found a great deal on this one. I figure the RA gearset would solve the gear ratio problem if there is one, and if I'm gonna go that route all I need is a case to accept it. Right? Buying a broken tranny and replacing the gears should decrease the downtime of my baby. Is there a difference in the case of the Legacy trannys and the WRXs. Or is this a bad idea?
I'm a little bit ignorant as to what is compatable with what, but I've learned so much from reading your threads. great job guys! |

My concern would be the center and front diff...probably different.

Not sure what the final drive is on the '98, but it's my understanding that the '96 legacy has a 4.11 ratio. Probably the same with the '98. I beleive the RA gearsets come with a 3.90 though, so none of this should matter. Right? I'll have to change the rear diff no matter what.
Why would the center diff be an issue? This brings up another question. I've heard that the sti is rear wheel drive until the rear wheels slip and the wrx is front drive until the front wheels slip. Is there any truth to this, and if so, is there a way to reverse it? I always thought that symetrical awd meant equal power front and back. Are they both considered symetrical? Maybe this question is in the wronge thread, but if this is the case I might rather have the sti tranny. Maybe I'd have to win the lottery first though. |

I just put an 05 STI swap into my 02 WRX. In a few months I wanted to have Neetronic install the DCCD. My question is not having that hooked up will not burn out any thing will it. Thanks

Does anyone have a successful write up how to swap in a STI transmission from any STI year to a 2006 WRX? I am really looking forward to looking into this considering I am in need of the swap! Please pm me or post links thank you. Or would the 04 sti transmission work with the 06 WRX. I am asking because I read in this thread the clutch setup is different. Please specify Thank you.

Bump
I need an answer to an axle stub question from those who have done this before. I have an early 04sti "stubbed" trans, but my 06 wrx has male axles. Can I just remove the stubs from the 6 speed and pop the wrx axles in? If they fit what else would I need? new circlips? |
