Dylan/DS1:

I'm in the middle of doing a 6 m/t swap on my 02 wagon. I'll be using all parts from a donor 04 JDM STi sedan including rear crossmember, R180 diff, driveshafts and Brembo brakes. I'm finding conflicting information on rear lateral links, since I'll be running R180 and Brembos. Is it stock wagon or use the STi ones?

The sedan links are longer and can cause interference issues with the whells and the quarter panel.

The axles are longer but we have used them in wagons with the stock wagon links and have had no adverse effects.

I might have been the first one to mention it to you. I ran into the same issues as ThreeEleven, which is why I ended up at DS1 for the install. The install has been great. The pizza was good too. Thanks DS1.

here is a question on the axle part. can you not just swap the female knuckle with a male knuckle to use stock wrx axles...im pretty sure that you can do this just want to make sure

of course this is mostly for the front i know you will have to swap out the drive shaft and rear diff but instead of putting sti hubs and everything on you can jsut swap the knuckles out so you dont have to change the whole setup

I know it does not pertain to "swapping" but if you are looking for a 6 speed and drive on the interstate frequently - you will be VERY disappointed with jdm 5/6 ratios..

I love how it drives, don't get me wrong - love the ratio's but had to take it on the freeway 2 days in a row and find myself driving at or below the speed limit because of revs - gas mileage went OUT the window on the freeway and gained almost 2 mpg around town over the 5mt...

But there is absolutely NO wait and no need to downshift to pass - that is for DAMN sure

SYBugeye- The Female and Male reference refer to the inside (transmission side) of the axle.

Jsarv- for those of us who road race the JDM 5/6 is perfect

This is similar to the question that I have. Im swapping a '04 6speed into my '08 FXT Sports and want to know if I can keep my stock hubs and brakes since they share the same bolt pattern?

555- you have PM

SYBugeye- inner or outer cups?

AspenWrx25- Yes you can retain your stock axles/brakes but depending on which production 04' 6mt you have you may need to pop out the stubs and install 05'+ seals

Thanks for the info Dylan.

One more thing, if I were to use the STi axles, is it still the same that I can retain my FXT hubs/calipers etc? Also which one was it that I need to look for that WILL need the 05+ seals? Thanks again!

can you reuse your 5mt starter or do you need the one that came with the 6mt?

You can use either... I reused my 5mt starter - flywheel size (OD/Ringgear) does not change in diameter...

Anyone got a price check on the yolks that convert the STi shaft to the r160 bolt pattern? I am having a hard time coming across any auto shafts thanks to the 6 speed swap demand lol. Looking into other options now...

i have another wagon question. i have a 2005 wrx wagon, so i'm 5x100. i know i need to beef up trans very soon and i want to swap. i have cobb bbk front and rear so i'd really like to swap 04 sti trans that has 5x100 also. i keep finding conflicting stories on this. can i re-use my wagon axles into an 04 sti tranny?

from what i gather i'd need the shorter driveshaft (4eat?). i'm just tired of trying with no success to track down the right information. could somebody 100% tell me everything that i will need to swap 04 sti in? also i'm confused all to hell about making dccd work. if i don't hook it up would i have an open differential? how would i make the dccd work without swapping over an sti wiring harness?

thank you in advance, feel free to pm me a response if you want to keep it out of this thread. i will also take a link if this scenario has already been done. thank you thank you thank you.

You can reuse your front axles/hubs. If you do the R180 rear you will need axles/hubs/diff. You will also need to get mounting brackets and rotors from Cobb to keep your rear calipers.
You will need a 4EAT driveshaft or STi driveshaft (see info about correct yoke part numbers for STi shaft).

As far as DCCD, www.dccdpro.com

thank you so much! for the rear axles/hubs what would i get? the wagon axles are shorter than sedan, so is there a wagon year axle that mates with the r180? 5x100 preferrably so i don't have a mixed set up. (5x100 front 5x114 rear)

The R180 sedan axles will work in the wagon. I used them in my own car to double check and no issues

Flywheels:

02'-05' WRX all use the same clutch and flywheel (except very early 02's). The 5mt clutch can be used with the 6mt but is a smaller diameter than the 6mt unit. The WRX slave cylinder can be reused on all 6mt's.
How does the change in diameter make a difference? I have a lightweight flywheel that is in my 5mt and will be doing the swap. i don't know if i should still keep it since i can use it or swap it out.

Im looking at an 806730041 right now labeled RH on the bag. Im not sure theres any difference between the right hand and left hand side. in fact they look exactly the same as cam seals.

heres a special question.

'00 coupe rs.

As much of the STi stuff I can use from a 5x114.3 STi.

Hubs, brakes, axles, diff, d/s

Can I use the control arms?

Arco- Bigger diameter = More load surface

SBW- Yes there is a difference between LH and RH

darkscooby- control arms and lateral links are longer in an GDB chassis. You can use them but you may have camber / Tire clearance issues.
