For sure it's going to be more drag race oriented than the GT350 (which really doesn't shine in a straight line) but it's got serious brakes and magneride so it's probably going to handle considerably better than a Hellcat and maybe more of a ZR1 competitor.

Pricing for the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is officially out. Hurrah! We learned it would produce 760 horsepower the other day, and now we know it'll cost $73,995 after the $1,095 destination charge and $2,600 gas-guzzler tax. With all the option boxes checked, you can get the price beyond $90,000. Most of that is thanks to an $18,500(!) available Carbon Fiber Track package.

Agree. While the black out bumper section is very EVO-esque it looks better than the other Mustang variants. I'm a Mustang fan but man this car is so expensive for a car that comes off the Flat Rock assembly line. I work with a guy that owns a GT350 and can attest (we park next to each other in the safe zone of the parking lot) has identical build quality to the cheapest entry level Mustang that rolls off the assembly line. Hopefully one day Ford is able to design front and rear bumper covers that properly attach to the body without poor alignment and gaps but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nothing kills my desire for something faster than feeling like I'm being taken advantage of by someone somewhere along the way. I want the feeling to be the opposite, especially for big ticket items like house/car/etc.

Hope your friend likes it, but man... that's getting reamed IMO.

$5,000 markup was the average overcharge for just the GT350 the first two years.
R model was $20,000+, IIRC.

And so many of them hit the used market within months of ownership.
I picked my ‘17 up with just 1,100 miles on it. The original owner had it less than nine months.

Yeah, a little patience never hurts. I picked up my GT3RS with only ~1300 miles on it for well under MSRP. The previous owner had added quite a few things that I didn't have to pay for, such as full xpel, ceramic coating, tinted windows, prewired for radar/laser detectors and laser jammers, etc.

There are a lot of people out there that just have to have the latest thing to come out as soon as it comes out, and jump from car to car and barely drive them.

According to him, the average ADM on the car goes from 10k to 50k right now.

I've never paid an ADM, but I have overpaid handsomely for a used car!

GT500 cool and all, but would be much cooler if it was a smaller, lighter package. Can't see buying one (even at MSRP) over a beautifully discounted Z06.

Simple demand economics. If something is limited supply and the demand exceeds it, you know damn well people will pay more to take it from someone who is willing to pay less or advertised market price. This happens with homes all the time. If its a sellers market, numerous bids go in with people often paying well and above asking price. Guess who wins.

If you don't like the price, think the price is fair, etc. then don't buy it. You're only being taken advantage of if you cave and pay the price knowing thats not what you want.

To some people, that car, house etc. is worth paying a premium over MSRP / list. Let them do it.

Not directed at BeepBop:

I don't see why people get so upset about a dealer charging ADM. Its a business, their goal is to maximize profit. Buying a car is a privilege, not a right. If someone is willing to pay more than you to obtain something materialistic, they should have the privilege of obtaining that item over you. If a dealer has a car sitting on a lot for a long period of time with ADM and its clearly not moving, that dealer is a total putz and needs to realign the pricing with what people are willing to pay.

End rant.

There were 5-10k adm's on my car. I just waited it out and ended up buying well below invoice. Want to be first, then you'll pay for the privilege on a low production performance car. Have some g damn patience and you'll pay much less.

I have zero problem with ADM. If there wasn't a demand for the car folks wouldn't pay it. It hasn't kept the used GT350 prices up any. Rather one paid 5k ADM for a R or 15k for an R on the used market it is still another R.

If you need a back seat this seems like a formidable offering. But at 100K I'd have to think someone lost their mind for a Mustang. Even at 45k I'm debating the worth of my 19 GT and I like the car. There aren't a ton of 460 HP cars with a back seat in the segment though.

I'm sure these will sell well both in the new and used market. I wouldn't touch a year one car and I wouldn't pay ADM either.

Exactly this! Why people can’t grasp this concept and cry about it is beyond me.

$100k is pretty damn steep and I don’t see the value in it. I guess if your shopping brand new, there isn’t anything that matches up in terms of performance and cost until your dropping $200k+. The GT is also in that sweet spot where $40-$45k is still costly but if you factor in that it’s brand new and the performance, nothing compares until you’re spending $65k+. Ford did a really good job positioning the mustang in the price and performance category.

I debated a used gt350 or a new mustang gt loaded against the M2 and both cars are amazing. They were just too big for me but still damn fun. That sound though.

Because it’s the internet and all people do is complain on the internet. What’s funny is even with no adm most complaining were never going to buy the widget anyways. I said it was lame as S on my car and that I didn’t like it. I just know how this works and it’s the customers at the end of the day that are the problem. If they wouldn’t start jerking their diks......if people would just refuse to pay ADM then nobody would have to pay it.

Same. I was on the fence hard after driving multiple GT350’s. Dealer I was buying from was dealing extremely hard on both. Same as you, doesn’t matter if it’s a Camaro or Mustang, they are just too large, too heavy. I know the aural visceral experience of the Voodoo would have worn off after a year. I just don’t like the Pony cars enough to purchase one myself. I just drove a SS 1LE and left very unimpressed. Felt large, heavy, and it isn’t much faster than my car. I looked up tires for it and it’s something like $1800 for all 4 on TR. F that. I heart that Voodoo motor but even with my car and a Magnetic Grey 350 side by side and after driving both I bought the other car. In your comparo I would have bought the M2 also. I think another worthy car will be the Supra if Toyo makes a manual trans version.

Default 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 Weighs 'Approximately' 4,225 Pounds

Heavy or Not- It Will Be Epic

Quote:
2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 Weighs 'Approximately' 4,225 Pounds

The figure allegedly comes from a leaked Ford eSourceBook for dealers.

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a seriously powerful machine. News from Mustang6g.com, however, says it’s also a seriously heavy machine. The sixth-gen-focused Mustang enthusiast forum has its hands on the 2020 Shelby GT500 eSourceBook, an 86-page reference guide to help Ford dealers and sales staff get acquainted with the relaunched muscle machine. Among the info in the book is an approximate base curb weight of 4,225 pounds, which obviously isn't a small number. We’ve contacted Ford in hopes of confirming this info and will report back if we receive an answer.

Provided this sourcebook is legit – and after perusing it ourselves we have no reason to believe it isn’t – it’s a veritable bible for Mustang fanatics seeking GT500 information. The fact that the supercharged Shelby is over 400 pounds heavier than the GT350 might not be the takeaway Ford wanted people to gain from this info, but it’s certainly a sign of the times. The 2020 Shelby GT500 still isn’t as portly as the 4,450-pound Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, but it’s considerably heavier than the 3,890-pound Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Both competitors were said to be benchmarked by Ford – the Challenger for dragstrip performance and the Camaro for handling prowess. With the Shelby running 0-100-0 in just 10.6 seconds, we have no doubts about its straight-line speed and braking power. 4,200 pounds might be tough to get around corners as efficiently as the Camaro though, especially if 56 percent of the GT500’s weight is on the front wheels as the sourcebook indicates. Still, we reserve further judgment until our first drive behind the wheel. We’ve certainly been surprised before, and the new Mustang does come with a snazzy optional Carbon Fiber Track Package.

Sadly, other tasty morsels of information such as 0-60 and quarter-mile times aren’t listed in the book. Ford has already told us it will turn a sub-11-second quarter-mile pass, but Ford also told us the engine would produce over 700 horsepower, and the final tally was actually closer to 800. We love surprises like that, but hopefully, the arrival of this sourcebook means that all GT500 stats will soon be revealed. It’s certainly been a long time coming.

You can save weight by ordering the various packages. My friend that has one on order schooled me up on it yesterday. You loose 200 lbs with the track pack, another 60 with the CF wheels, another 40 lbs with the Recaros, rear seat delete, etc.

New ones are 60K and there are discounts. Gotta go new there - 10K depreciation over 3yrs is awesome.

I'm getting back into bikes after 20 yrs BTW, in anticipation of moving out of this crazed leftist hellhole. Might PM you for advice after I get the lay of the land and have sat on a few.

NA engine, I'd take the used one with 6700 miles I just found for $49k and let some sucker eat depreciation. But then again they are beefing up internals on the 2020 350 so yeah get the new one after the internal upgrades.

Bikes, anything you need, be glad to help. Make damn sure you aren't going to dip that foot into that water unless you plan on full gear. Full suit, 1 piece or 2 piece, top notch armored gloves/boots, helmet, etc. 20 years, it's a new day brah. You'll look at expensive cars much differently after, they get to be a bit pointless and just aren't as much fun. Start looking at the RSV4. It's the gem of the bunch. Youtube's got some nice exhaust videos. Motor is a beautiful thing. It's the motorcycle Voodoo right now if that makes sense.

I haven't been on a bike in five years, and cars still feel slow to me, not to mention the cocoon affect from being in a cage instead of straddling 400ish pounds of aluminum and plastic.

Yup. It's why no expensive cars appeal to me outside of an Ariel Nomad. No car is as much fun to drive as a motorcycle is to ride. Sunday AM, check PSI, fire up the bike and let it warmup, get into the suit, helmet on, fire up the tracks, 25 minutes to the twsties, hit that first turn and start leaning. Hit the apex, starting bringing the bike back upright, still leaned over, with a good amount of contact patch, WFO in 2nd gear, hit 3rd gear, it's better than sex. Life revolves around it. Friends call "we are banging beers tonight at X", nah, I'm riding in the morning. Chic wants to do x, y, z, nah I'm going riding. All week in the gym, eating like a nutritionist. I only work a professional career so I can own and ride sportbikes, own a house just so I have a garage. It's an addiction but a good one. Every ride is a vacation from everything. You never look at cars the same. You end up wanting a fast, turbocharged, AWD car that can be used year round in all weather conditions because your RWD uber fast needs are already met on 2 wheels. I look at the C8 and say, I could have a new R1, Ducati V4 and Aprila RSV4 for that money.

The disease it taking hold... The MT-10 has the same power:weight as my Cobra replica. I'm going to die!

C8 loaded 80-85K, expect Z06 +20K, so very similar to C7. Oops, GT500 thread. Nothing relevant to add.

Why Racing Stripes Cost $10,000 on the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has optional painted-on racing stripes that cost $10,000, and when we spec'd the car for a story, we chose them.
Available in black, blue, and white, the stripes cost 10 times as much as the stick-on vinyl stripes Ford also offers on the GT500.
Due to the labor-intensive application process, Ford is limiting the option.

Want to inflate the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500's $73,995 base price by 14 percent with only one option? Buy the optional painted-on racing stripes, of course! They cost $10,000, which seems, um, decadent for a non-performance-enhancing feature on a pony car's option sheet.

But wait, you might be asking: What's the going rate for factory-applied stripes these days? The GT500's option sheet provides insight by way of its available stick-on vinyl stripes, which run $1000. On the less powerful GT350, those same vinyl stripes cost $495. Curious what the 1000 percent markup for the GT500's painted-on versions was all about, we reached out to Ford for clarification.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
Ford

Apparently, the stripes are hand painted onto GT500s so ordered. Per a company spokesperson, the stripe job is "hand-prepped, painted, and then clear-coated." He adds that "Due to the specialized nature of the process, [Ford has] a very limited production capacity." Indeed.

Even though we've yet to experience these hand-painted stripes firsthand, we can say that stripe aficionados shouldn't dismiss their $10,000 price out of hand. Being integral with the car's paint job, the stripes shouldn't peel or start to come off, as those cheaper vinyl ones did on our 2017 Mustang Shelby GT350 test car. (The decals began forming bubbles beneath their surfaces and peeling up at their edges after less than a year.) Granted, that car lived in salty, harsh Michigan—but so does the Ford Motor Company. Our point, besides still feeling salty over our GT350's failed stripes? Get the painted-on stripes if you seek racing-stripe object permanence. They're available in the same colors as the vinyl pieces: black, blue, or white.
