Default What is the best dealership to warranty my car?

I got a stop sale date 08 STi and its not doing to good, its got 7000 miles on it. Its making a loud annoying clicking/knocking noise from the engine area. My gas milage has gone from an average of 20mpg to 15mpg, and it feels like ive lost some power. The only time it doesnt make the noise is when I got the clutch pedal down while driving, im guessing because the fuel cuts off then and the low rpm. Who has got the best mechanics if Its something serious ???

FROM: Subaru of America, Inc.
DEPARTMENT: Service Department
DATE: 04/04/2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

APRIL 4, 2008
IMMEDIATE STOP SALE ORDER
ALL SUBARU DEALERS

We regret to inform you that we must place an immediate stop sale order on all of the 2008/2009 Subaru Impreza and Forester vehicles equipped with a 2.5L Turbo Engine produced with the beginning chassis number and later as shown below.
Model Starting Chassis Number Production Date

Forester 701045 2008/01/08
Impreza 523363 (SEDAN)/825183 (HATCH)2008/01/08

The reason for this immediate Quality Assurance action is that there have been several reports of "Engine Knocking Noise" from other markets on vehicles produced after the production dates listed.

Initial investigation confirms an internal wear issue on the failed units.

In the interest of preventing any possibility of failures for our customers, we have chosen to isolate any potentially affected vehicles by ceasing sales of the potentially affected units until the root cause and correction can be identified.

All the other displacement engines and the 2.5L Natural Aspirated Engine are excluded from this action.

Your region/distributor will be contacting you with a detailed list of affected vehicles assigned to your dealership. However, dealer trades cannot be tracked so please be aware of the affected VIN range.

If you have a vehicle in inventory that falls into the affected vehicle range, please ensure that your sales and service staff are immediately notified that the unit is un-saleable until further notice from SOA or your region/distributor.

If any of those vehicles has an unusual engine noise, please notify the SOA Technical Helpline immediately with all of the details and submit an E-QMR.

Should a customer bring an affected vehicle into your service department for an unusual engine noise, please immediately arrange that they are given the use of a clean SSLP vehicle and notify the Technical Helpline and submit an E-QMR.

You will be contacted shortly thereafter on how to proceed.

We are still investigating whether any of the SIA produced Legacy Outback turbo vehicles are affected. If any action is needed on the SIA vehicles, you will be notified early next week.

I believe the ECU map was off and causing the turbo to create boost when it wasn't supposed to (at the top of the RPM range) causing the motors to go boom. Good be wrong on this though.

No the stop sale had to do with rod knock that showed up almost immediately. There was a test procedure written that basically asked the techs to rev it up and see if it developed rod knock. The stop sale required every car be tested to see if it was affected; affected cars could not be sold without repair. The ECU reflash was simply required before a model could be sold.

yeah i dont know of any had the problem that was described by the stop sale. we tested everyone that we had and none fell under the problem. the problem you described tho sounds like it may be something different. depending where you live id call up a dealership and set up an appointment asap. Power Subaru has a really good service manager working for them, he's been with subaru the longest. good luck

OK I took my car in finaly and went for a short drive with a mechanic, he heard the ping/knock noise but said its normal and not enough to cause damage to the motor. Told me to fix it I should use a thicker 10w-30 oil, higher octane fuel, and get a tune. Should I get a second opinion? Or start modding it and forget the warranty?

did you have a honda before??? (inside joke... i use to say that to all the kids that use to come to me after they bought their first suby and use to say "my car is misfiring"... i use to put my ear about 2 feed from the engine and over emphasis me listening for a problem... then I'd move my ear a little closer and do the same thing while giving the owner a WTF look... then id move it even closer and give them a more serious WTF look).

if the mechanic was asian then i'd listen to him. If it was a white boy that looked like Lurch from the adams family i'd think about getting a second opinion. Hes a good tech and all but is still learning subys.

I havent owned a Honda for 15 years , I'm going to try Power Subaru like you mentioned earlier, or just take it down the street to FAT and pay them to test it out. I didnt think the mechanic knew what he was talking about, he didnt even know the reason for the stop sale. Im getting over -4 knock at 4000-5000rpm I doubt thats normal for any car, and it sounds worst than my work van that has over 100k on it .

What a tool. Did you ask if "the tune" he recommends is warranty friendly ? The higher octane fuel recommendation probably would have put me over the edge. You shouldn't have to spend money or do anything extra (be it a tune or high octane fuel, etc.) that's not listed in the owner's manual to make the car run normally; it should be perfectly reliable from the factory. Definitely get a second opinion - the guy you spoke with was obviously an idiot and/or not willing to help you.

You were compelled enough to bring the car into Subaru; that tells me you think there may really be something wrong. Why would you so say forget the warranty and start modding before you even find out if there was a problem to begin with? Your car likely won't be covered under warranty if something goes wrong after you mod.

Yea I definatly wasnt happy when leaving that place it was obvious that they didnt want to help me. I always play dumb when going to the dealership to see if they BS me cause if they do that then I dont want them to touch my car. Ive already changed my oil to 10w-30 and added 100oct fuel over a month ago and have gone through 3 tanks of gas to see if it went away, but its still knocking.

Yea the car doesnt feel or sound the same as it did for the first 5000 miles. Ive have wanted to build the engine with forged internals, get a bigger turbo, and run e85 fuel for a while now. But since S Jory closed down ive been treated like crap at the other dealers and ive been completly turned off by the brand and ive been thinking of going back to Nissan or Mitsubishi lately . The warranty seems useless anyway they wont fix the rear hatch rattles, grinding brake rotors, or my broken fuel door either. I have to stick a piece of paper under the fuel lever and open the fuel door with a key car is a POS.

yeah those are all simple fixes... except the rattle.. which could be a simple fix depending on where it is.

Your brakes might make a grinding noise because of debris thats in there. if it happens once in a while i wouldnt worry about it. If it happens every time you touch the brakes i'd get it warranty. dont let them tell you that brembos are not covered by the warranty. before i worked for avondale subaru they use to say that its not. But It IS covered by warranty 3/36k.

Broken fuel door might just need some adjusting. simple fix. they should cover it as it falls under 3/36k also.

rear hatch rattle is 3/36k too.

I dont think I will ever go to MCS again. Some dip**** lot attendant or whoever parked my car totally jacked up my lip and scratched the paint on my front end. They put me in a Kia rental for two days and just repainted the lip. Their service manager in so many words basically called me a liar and said all he was going to do is meet me "half way there" and paint the lip. I wont ever go back there if I can help it. I miss Don and Steven Jory Subaru.

Power is taking care of me lately. They just repainted the whole front clip to remove the stone chips. SOA warrantied it. It is just who you talk to.. If you are unhappy with the dealer, call SOA at 800-SUBARU-3.
