I took my first test drive of a non Subaru last night. More are coming. 2011 in a different car seems much more likely.

I think ill show up to an auto x just to see how my car does how i can improve it.

One question, I have camber plates but no lateral links or camber bolts in the rear, like you. im shooting for about -1.1 to -1.2 camber in the rear. did you have to do anything special to get it? I ask because at the middle setting of the plates, im sitting at about -2.5 (!).

gonna go get an alignment today, and hit a skidpad on saturday, so we will see. any pointers would be great.
What are your ride heights? If you are low, you'll have more camber.

IMHO, -1.1 in the rear might be a little aggressive/twitchy for road course work. I was going to take the car to VIR in March and run like -3 f -2 r with normal ride heights.

Not for autox. Especially with Stoptechs in the front.

If you end up wanting to sell your H6 setup in the next month or so hit me up with a pm, I'm refreshing my brakes for next season soon and I'm on stock fronts and rears so I'm thinking the H6 setup would help me.

Update:

Car is sold. Next owner will be autocrossing it, which is a relief. I would have hated to part it out and sell it to some 17 year old only to have them put it into a jersey barrier or something.

New car is purchased. I don't know if I can start a non-Subaru build thread in here though, Paisan might baninate me. I need to take some pictures. I'm hoping it'll be ready for event #1.

You mean STU.

I'm sure you're allowed to post pics of the new ride in here, then just provide a link for your build thread on that other AWD vehicular forum.

So is the WRX staying local?

Well that thru me for a loop. I thought John was trying to autocross something entirely different??? Subaru gods would be really pissed if he went over to the dark-side (Evo). Not even I dared to do that...

P.S. I've driven a few STU evos over the years and I found them all pushy. Never drove a super-prepped one like Corey's, so who knows...

P.P.S. Whatever he shows up in Josh, kick his arse for me will ya! He kicked mine too many times last season!!!

All I will say right now is:

* It's currently a BSP car
* Before the season starts it will be an STU car

Like I said pictures to come

BTW for anyone who has been following this, a bunch of parts from the WRX are for sale.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2127691

If the ST* reorg goes through as it sits that should only help the WRX. Those Volks will be yummy for someone. They're super light and super strong, not like the SSRs, and much prettier than the RPF1s everyone uses.

I'm going to pass this year. Might co-drive with Mark in STR as well as play with some of my own toys (including some track days and rallyx).

That said, I'd love to co-drive at an AI event though.

Well it's in BSP as it sits. Long story... I'll probably start out in either STU-non comp or BSP depending on the heats, until I can get the car totally STU.

I think they both have SE's. I'm hoping to get Anthony's old wheels (SSR RS) if Andrew will sell me those and his Motonzzzz.

If Andrew keeps his car I'll probably be ordering a set of Ohlins from Performance Shock.

Aw hell, why not XP?

Actually it would be fun trying to torment the local Cobras.

But STU is such a fun class locally and regionally that leaving it would be dumb.

I'm a BMWCCA member... gets me discounts on parts for the daily driver. Figured I would try one of their events since it's pretty close and Blue Crabs is a great lot - pretty much a drop in replacement for Ripken.

The event was well run - I was there for a total of 3 hours, no joke. That *never* happens. There was a good interval and not a huge number of drivers, a good combination. The course was really fast, though quite similar to an AI course from last year (the one where Shane, Travis and I all drove my car in the same day and I was running STU). Here's a video:

YouTube- project:BDR: John: #246 X3: NCC BMWCCA, Blue Crabs Stadium, 4-17-2010

If you're thinking "man, that video sucks"... you're right. We finally sat down and figured out how to make it 640 pixels instead of 320... big difference!

Short version... ended up finishing 4th in raw time, behind a Cobra on huge v710s, a Caterham also on R's, and a supercharged E36 M3 also on R's. And the braking was working very well. I ended up with a 41.2 but there was definitely a 40.x out there - I just could not consistently get the braking down in the middle of the course. For comparison, AJ ran a 41.7 in his Civic - right quick considering this was definitely a power course!

No setup changes for this event... same ol' Dunlops. It's amazing how they don't seem to have dropped off much even after all the miles and runs.
in the category of total browsing....I recall this impressive performance, the first time I recall seeing you drive. I was almost 3 seconds back of your time on this course (albeit on a very basic car setup), and I felt like I drove a good day - 2nd in X2 and about 20th out of 98 in raw. And you still destroyed me! At least I can see me departing the start as you pull into the finish

I do enjoy the BMWCCA events

AJ was only a half second back on what was a power course - that was more impressive, IMHO!

Anyway - the Evo build thread is up on The Official Darkside Forum:

Time to go to work!
