The owners manual for my 02 WRX says the valet key will only work in the doors and ignition, but not in the trunk or glovebox - doesn't say anything about only working three times (I'll have to try it, I suppose) - other cars I have owned were the same way.

I agree...my STi came with the flamboyant STi key, which I hate, and the "valet" key.

I drive around with the valet key every day because it fits on my keyring much better.

You can't get into the glovebox (if it is locked with the master key) or the trunk. I just keep the little tab on the trunk lock in the normal position so I can open the trunk with the remote unlatch.

I don't use the keyless entry and I don't have an alarm. I've never had any problems with driving it every day.

As you get close to the car, the car will sense the key fob and unlock the doors, set the seats, etc. Pretty neat, but not worth the $75K the car costs.

I remember a Saturn I used to have had a plastic key molded as a cutout in a credit card that you could keep in your wallet for emergencies (like locking yourself out). Because it was plastic, it was only good for emergencies and probably wouldn't hold up to regular use.

Benz has a couple cars using the ky set up you describe here, pretty fat!

Sounds like you have a very unique RS. Or maybe an aftermarket system of some kind? Even the 04 STI doesn't have this feature.
