Default So.....I bought one of those cheap ebay front lips

for my 06 wrx
$65 shipped......find it yourself

it had some self tapping screws and a couple pop-its supplied with it....i got a handful of 1/4" ss bolts/nuts/washers and some 3m double sided tape....its solid

....since im driving so many highway miles, i wanted to see if this would make any difference....
I lightened up the front end and it got a lil twitchy at speed...demanded a lot of attention.....figured a lil downforce(or maybe should say less lift) would help
it did

and in the 650 highway miles so far....im getting almost 2.5mpg better, too

my 02 wrx REALLY needed a lip too.....seems the gd chassis needs a lip for best overall user experience

kinda shocked it made so much difference

YMMV

GTF out of here really... no fooling? your talking about like a V limited or JNA style lip right? Would make sense even a small airdams will have an effect.

...the $65 style one that came in a full size box not all folded up, and had some screws and pop-its with it...the good one, ya know

and there seems to be quite a bit less air noise in the car now, too

****....couldnt ask for a better return on a $65 shipped lip ....$10 worth of tape and $5 worth of ss hardware and ~30 minutes time

I've had that one for quite some time. I'm pretty sure it's reasonably well documented to be a good buy. Since I'm lowered, it scrapes a little on steep inclines, and the self tapping screws don't do a few good job on scraps, but zip-ties are wonderful.

Same, I've smashed my Ebay lip quite a few times and not once has it cracked or fallen off.

Oh yes. And $88 is still super cheap.

Whats the finish like on yours? matte/gloss? The ones on eBay look like they have a matte finish, but the JNA one (few bucks more) seems to have a semi-gloss finish.

the finish isnt glossy...semi-glossy maybe

it isnt flat, no.....and it is pretty even, too

im not gonna paint it or do anything else to it....its there until it departs or the car goes away or the dog chews it off or whatever

im gonna fix the side where i installed it a lil off and done...should take me all of a minute when i get 'round to it

2.5 mpg better mpg isn't due to a lip with less than 1% frontal facing surface area compared to the rest of the car. Even if you were getting 30 mpg to begin with, an extra 2.5 mpg is an insane amount of improvement that cannot be achieved with a cheap hunk of plastic hanging off the front of your car.

well...if you saw how high the front of the car sits you would likely agree....

i have a bit of a rake issue due to noltec plates in the front

and i DID say more data was needed, now didnt I

I got the same lip as you sir. I find it very nice, but had to re-drill on the right side because the metal bracket had twisted and I got misaligned. But since then, I've had no problems, except for being very worried about bottoming out on speed bumps and the like. Great price, since shipping must have cost them about $20. I haven't noticed any MPG increase, but then again I tend to have it not displayed since it's so depressing. I get about 20.2 MPG over my first 1500 miles on my 2012 WRX.

Scotty has a Hawkeye iirc.

US you should consider swapping the self tapping hardware for bolts/locknuts. It would suck to have one work loose and find it's way into a tire.

I dont think they are gonna work lose anytime soon....there are 8 bolts/nuts/washers already there....i just used the screws to get the places where it needed a bit extra 'grip'

That's a huge gain in mpg for a tiny piece of plastic, doesn't seem possible in my experience.

For me, the prodrive lip made things a little less twitchy. Using w/ an APR splitter made the front end so grounded, the rear felt terrible . Gas mileage dropped with that setup.

V2 lip made about the same difference in reducing twitch at speed, but no noticeable change in mileage.

did ya ever notice the little flaps that stick down an inch or so in front of the front tires????

the manufacturers wouldnt install them if those tiny little pieces of plastic didnt do anything.....cheaper to leave them off....NO????

I think too many people just dont understand simple aerodynamic devices and how they work.
that's ok......ignorance and stupidity ARE encouraged in todays world.

remember kiddies, last place is the new first place

OK....for 1100 miles, the mpg is up about 1.5mpg, total.
summer/winter fuel may account for some of this but that may or may not be the issue here....haddnt thought of that one before.

but there is most definitly something going on as it really does make the car drive much nicer on the highway quieter too
