Not sure what this is based off of, but it quickly adds up to zero chance of stopping for many vehicles.

I've been a good driver my entire life and that hasn't changed since I got into BMW's. I live in pickup truck country and they stick out to me as the least courteous of drivers by a longshot but part of that is because they are easily recognizable. The truth is that jerks can drive anything and BMW's are simply more recognizable to most people. You see a Camry run a red light and nobody thinks Camry driver or Toyota driver is a jerk because the vehicles are derivative and could be confused by most people as with any garden variety Hyundai or Honda that fade into the background of anonymity and blend in. It doesn't matter what model BMW you drive they are all easily identifiable with the twin kidney grilles as everyone knows what they are. The reason a lot of people drive luxury vehicles is because they want to get noticed in a prestige vehicle and sometimes it ends up happening for the wrong reasons.

I actually make an extra effort to be courteous in my GT3 RS just because I don't want to spread the stigma of being a jerk just because of what I drive.

I think it's just natural for people to assume that most people with nice things/lots of money are jerks though.

For the sake of the article, it's saying people with nice things feel entitled and superior. And their driving habits prove this out. But as we've seen in this thread, having the nice things or wanting to have nice things or just driving circumstances and habits in general play a big role in shaping the culture and acceptability of behavior.

Maybe it's better if the Teslas drive themselves.

The entitled actions extend beyond just stopping for pedestrians...

We've got the metered highway on-ramps around here. If you're a single occupant vehicle, you're supposed to sit and wait in line for the light to let you through. Most on-ramps have an HOV lane, where multiple occupant vehicles get to skip the light, or at least get into a shorter line. Obviously, the HOV lane gets abused by the impatient. Very rarely there's a police officer pulling people over.

As I sit there, I will watch the HOV lanes. The most common abuser is in a premium level car... audi, bmw, mercedes. There's the occasional delinquent driving a jalopy because f the man, but it's mostly just rich folks.

Oh we have Ram drivers, well....maybe "drivers" is the wrong word. We have Ram owners for sure. You know the type, people who like large flashy vehicles and enjoy spending time in tow trucks and stealership waiting rooms.

"The answers were unambiguous: self-centered men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes,"

If you own this type of car, it doesn't mean you're an A$$-Hole; but if you are an A$$-hole, you probably own this type of car.

The biggest issue I see with this driving behavior around here are SUV's and full size trucks. Oh and Prii in the fast lane on the highway, that stigma is still there.

I'll take someone who drives with purpose and wants people to get the **** out of their way over someone who doesn't check blindspots, doesn't properly center their car in the parking space, doesn't take turns at speed, etc.

I suppose what it comes down to is what is being classified as being an *******.

Also, if I show up to a 4 way stop and you hesitate, I'm not bothering to teach you how they work. I'm going. Same for pedestrians that sit there making sure the entire intersection is frozen before they step off the curb.

Get your ass in gear and act like this is a well-oiled machine, or sit there like the scared, cautious dip you are and wait until people who actually have things to do get out of your way.

My wife does this a lot whenever we're walking into stores from the parking lot. Peds have the ROW here, and we'll be in the giant crosswalk, but she still stops and waits for every vehicle to come to a complete stop as I brazenly and authoritatively step out into the intersection because I properly examined the situation ahead of time and already determined if it was safe or not to do that.

Stop wasting people's time. Stop being needlessly cautious.

This is a stupid study, cause it doesn't factor in reasons people might not stop, other than because they're a-holes. Maybe the people in expensive cars have jobs, kids etc and they're running late or stressed, and the people in ****boxes are deadbeats cruising to the quick-e-mart for smokes.

right?

some of us aren't happy unless we can come in here and argue very intelligent and well-articulated points about complete nonsense. It's what we do.
