Good luck tuning big power with that CVT its great for stock power but runs out of usefulness around 350-380hp

exactly. A majority of even tuned Subarus never exceed those power levels at the flywheel, so who even cares. Those that want a CVT, go for it. You'll end up with a great car.

I'd rather have the manual personally and R&T just knocked off 0-60 in 4.8 with a 13.6 1/4 mile time. Said it handles great and feels like a GD STi stock for stock.

Yeah, they listened to Subaru's advice and did 5K rpm launches. That's the difference between their times and other mags. As we all know its all about the launch in a WRX.

But every mag makes a comment about the looks. R&T "is not a very pretty 4 door."
One of my other mags (Motor Trend of Car and Driver) made a comment about the WRX's looks by saying "well just look at it" making reference to it not looking so good.
Another mag made a comment about the WRX looking like a Camry?

The WRX has always had it own unique look. Hopefully Subaru won't make it look too much like everything else on the road.

I've owned an 02 (bug eyes) and an 04 STi.

I like to see some performance numbers for the automatic. I broke my left ankle and it doesn't like pushing in the clutch all the time.

Automatic does 0-60 in 5.9. Not too bad

Everyone expects too much in the looks department. The company designed the impreza to sell to normal peiple. If the wrx is going to continue being affordable they are going to need to keep using the impreza chasis or team up with Toyota like they did with the brz. So there is only so much they can do with the looks.

I'm in the market to grab a WRX with Sport Lineartronic (CVT) but am given pause by reviews such as this that recommend the manual over the automatic. What are the objective reasons for choosing the manual over the CVT? I've test-driven the 15 WRX CVT and found that it does have a fully "manual" mode (shifting the gear lever to the left) so that the driver can dial in whatever gear ratio he/she wants at any point in time. There's mention of power lost to the drivetrain (converted to heat?) but has it been quantified what that value is? Any other reasons?
