Default Official 2008 NFL Thread

Since we have a college thread, why not NFL? What are your thoughts on week 1?

My week one thoughts are man the seagals looked bad, the Bears looked good and well Tom Brady is gone.... No really I feel bad for him but not the rest of the NFL. Cowgirls looked pretty dang good and I'm still not sold on Aaron Rodgers, though he played well. Still think the Chargers are the team to beat in the AFC and who knows anymore in the NFC. If the Bears can play D like that, run the ball as effectively, and not turn the ball over they look pretty good. Cowgirls or Eagles look the best right now followed by the Saints and Panthers.

How about just a Hawks thread?

Man the Hawks looked terrible on Sunday. Our offense was just plain terrible, I think I could have done a better job holding on to some of those passes! And to add insult to injury, Burleson tears up his knee? At least we've added some veterans in Samie Parker and Billy McMullen yesterday and today. Although they're not outstanding recievers, I think they're solid, veteran guys to help out our young reciever corp until Brand and Engram come back from their injuries. Bright spots from Sunday? Carlson looked good! Finally a TE that can catch the ball!

As for the rest of the NFL, it was an interesting Week 1. I absolutely hate the Patriots more than any team not named the Yankees, and think Tom Brady is a complete tool. That being said, I feel bad for Brady and for Pats fans. But they should just be glad that their baseball team isn't in danger of losing 100 games with a $100 million payroll, or their NBA team has been stolen away. Oh yeah and Merriman isn't as big of an idiot as we all thought he was!

Please don't anybody mention Favre, I'm do damn sick of hearing about him.

Since I was San Diego born and raised, I was a little upset by the loss. Team looked strong though, and now we will have to adjust for the loss of Merriman who finally made the wisest decision. I was most suprised by Atlanta this weekend. They picked up Michael Turner and his first game as a starter he broke the franchise rushing record for a game. Glad to see he got picked up by someone where he will get the playing time he deserves. Finally in the spotlight and not LT's shadow.

That Chargers game was a tough one. I'm a big fan of LT and Gates so I usually find myself cheering for them, especially since they picked up Weddle from my almamater(SP?). I also route for the Panthers due to Steve Smith and Jordon Gross also from Utah. I was happy with the outcome either way.

I was a Brett Favre prior to all the 'I'm retiring, wait no I'm not' dramafest. That's all they talked about on SportsCenter for like 2 months!

What about the Broncos? I know they were playing Oakland, but they looked pretty good. That Royal guy looked pretty damn good at receiver...

Those won't be a late season those are now. The Rams are awful. Cardinals should be good but always underachieve, and the niners well who knows with them.

Could not agree more. I freaking hate the Steelers with a passion. The Pats too but the Steelers...

I'm upset with the way the Hawks played on Sunday but I'm hoping the offense decides to step up for next weeks game.

And I'm happy the Colts lost. But that's just because of a personal vendetta with my best friend.

I wasn't happy with how they played either. They got dominated in all aspects of the game. Hopefully playing at home for the next two weeks can get them on a roll. In 2005 (Super Bowl year), the Hawks lost week 1 to Jacksonville pretty handily and then went on to finish the regular season 13-3...

Oakland may never turn it around. They should move the franchise back to LA, maybe that will help

Oakland is terrible, but they definitely have talent. The backfield combo of Vargas and McFadden could be quite dangerous.

Has anyone seen the deal between the NFL and Chad Ocho Cinco? Rediculous enough to make me laugh!
