overrated but very appreciated

Saw one in person, it's still a bloated, under-powered sedan like it always been, now with all the uglyness of most recent USDM Subaru offerings...just like it's jelly-bean looking cosuin the Outback.

Maybe my initial impressions will be changed after I spend some quality time with one on the track later this week...but I doubt it.

I had really been wondering when they would move the turbo under the engine. Definitely going to do wonders for spool-up. I think a twinscroll would be the next step.

Last thing that I have to wonder is how the turbo placement would effect the hotside size limitation we currently face...

The intake plumbing is also running parallel and right next to the headers, wonder if there is good heat shielding there. I think the design is good enough to almost make up for the horrible look of the current Impreza.

the 05-07's can resemble camrys as well if you look hard enough. This isn't something new

Can't wait to see what people will be doing to these though in the near future! Even the subtle changes on the 2010 b4 make it look better.

Equal length header from the factory. Cool.

Can't wait for the aftermarket to start making this setup for the older models. I would love that style of header with a T3/T4 flange on my 08 STI! 35R with 30R spool.

They say they don't agree with the lack of a base model for the GT; however I agree with Subaru on this. I have a TR WRX and the $1,000 or so that I saved left me wishing for more on many aspects of my car. Granted some things like my stereo were replaced right away, and I don't REALLY need side skirts, but to have a nice interior would have been a big plus. Either way the Leggy is going down the wrong path and it makes me sad

i love the new turbo setup and would definitely be interested to see if anybody will try this with the WRX and STIs.

And i kinda like the subtle changes on the 2010, i have an '82 sitting in my driveway right now so i have a little bit more respect for the legacy's than some.

I think its a move in positive direction for the legacy line - I am interested to see the aftermarket run with the new placement. It makes for shorter easier piping for FMICs. It does add alot of piping to keep a topmount though (the one positive for current turbo position)

all in all I think time will tell but am encouraged to see some forward thinking

I so dearly miss my 1995 Legacy GT limited. It was without a doubt the best overall car I ever owned. My STI was brutal, my MS3 lacks passion, but my Legacy GT was such a great car. I seriously could kick myself in the but for selling it. It did EVERY single thing so darn well!!!!

I HATE CVT transmissions! They always drive and react sluggish. Why not do it right and go dual clutch?? VW uses it, Mitsubishi uses it, Nissan uses it, BMW uses it, etc. If this is who Subaru is trying to compete with this is what they need to do!

As for the turbo placement, lots of facotry turbocharged vehicles mount the turbo right behind the radiator such as the Evo (becides the X) and MINI Cooper S. I wouldnt be too worried about the heat.

And I do like how my car has an unsual deep rumble compared to other 4 cyls, but it is the sound of a poorly designed exhaust path. Also like someone already stated, hopefully this will be the death of the 'uppipe'. I can't wait for someone to bolt a 35R with a .82 A/R in the stock location

I'm starting to wonder WHY I am dead set on getting an '08 STI as my next car, when for the same price I could have an EVO with optimal turbo placement (Like this legacy finally accomplished) and with a dual clutch. I guess I feel comfortable working on subaru's and like the way the hatch looks... But they're falling behind. This legacy has started to hint at improvements but still doesn't do it.

Yes, I am winging it in those short videos. They're clips from my video blog: shot on the scene on my iPhone and uploaded immediately to YouTube. Consider the context. They were the first look at the new Legacy. Our scripted and much more awesome videos are here: http://www.youtube.com/drivingsports/

We have a more thorough video on the new Legacy models at http://www.subiesport.com, but that is a bonus for our digital subscribers.

This.^^^

The mojority of people who buy a Subaru do it because of winter conditions. With a hot turbo down below won't it be more prone to cracking or other problems when driving through deep snow or water?

^^ I'm sure Subaru Engineers thought about that alittle bit

There's probably some type of shielding around the turbo.
