Subaru Impreza Concept Stuns LA
New Impreza Concept is one Sexy Beast By Ryan Douthit, Driving Sports TV See the full gallery! Let's review just some of the news this week: GM sounds the opening "bell" (actually, it was the rev of a Camaro in lieu of the traditional bell) as it goes public, Bristol Palin has somehow managed to be a finalist on Dancing with the Stars, scientists have successfully trapped anti-matter (which could result in limitless free energy) and our countries airports have become a battleground for Fourth Amendment rights. The biggest shocker of the week, however, is this: Subaru unveiled a new concept car at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show and it was sexy as hell. Simply called the "Subaru Impreza Concept," this is four-door coupe with lines that rival (and perhaps borrows a bit) from the Toyota LF-A Supercar, but packaged with a uniquely Subaru familiarity. Subaru Japan says the shape's sharp edges and streamlined form have been wind tunnel tested in pursuit of better aerodynamics. Massive wheel arches carry-over a variation of a design trait on the current-generation Legacy: a visual cue that underscores the underlying all-wheel drive system. Squint at the profile of the Concept and it's not hard to see how they got from the current Impreza sedan to this form. Inside, the company focused on three words, "Dynamic, Enticing, Secure." Though, the stark white trim may not be to everyone's real-world liking, it wears well on the concept. Quite unusual for a concept, this is an interior that doesn't seem too far removed from being real world ready. Ford, Hyundai and Volkswagen, are already integrating computer screens into gauge clusters, Subaru can't be too far behind. Frankly, don't be surprised if this interior is right around the corner for all Subaru refreshes. The Concept is powered by a 2.0-liter version of Subaru's all-new third generation boxer motor mated to Subaru's own CVT transmission. A 2.5-liter version of this mill is already in the 2011 Forester. Currently, there is no official word on when the Subaru Impreza Concept's design touches will start making their mark on the rest of the lineup. We can guess, however, that we'll be driving something very close to this in 2011 and it likely be sporting an Impreza badge. New and Rumors Thread, already in progress...

I think it looks very interesting and definitely doesn't look like (insert amalgam of current econobox cars here). Of course it's still a concept and would likely differ greatly in production form.

Don't like the new Legacy, and I don't like this much. I guess one of the reasons I like the previous GD and GR Imprezas is that they didn't sacrifice function for form, unlike most cars. Most new cab-forward designs tend to have very wide A-pillars to provide crashworthiness, but this tends to create blind spots. I have a feeling that this new design will have the same problem. Also, the sloping rear roofs in the "coupe-like" design tend to eat into head room. Overall, the outline is too similar to a Chevy Cobalt and not evocative of Subaru's previous successful designs. Just my 2c.

It's a scaled down new Legacy.
Glad it's a concept. |

Wow!
Whoever drew it up is definitly a very talented artist, but not diggin it at all... I do this type of work full time for a living and my kudos go out. Unfortunately the artist rarely has full say of how things end up looking so Im sure subarus design team leader has some crazy idea in his/her head. I just dont like it. I like the 2004-5 wrx's they should just keep em looking like that forever... haha.

I don't hate it. But I don't see how this could carry over to the STI. If they figured out how to put that back end on the new STI I think it'd look okay. Like someone said, its a Subaru Taurus.

I like that it looks more agressive but it looks too large, not sure in person though. Maybe a step up for the legacy?

Its interesting. I like the gauge cluster idea, but not too sure about the exterior. But I have to say, it looks better than the 2011 subaru imprezas. The looks went away with the sedans after 2007.
Hopefully it will be the 2 liter with an 8k rpm redline |
