haha mythbusters would never test this way.. however i do love my sti over the 09 wrx i had

Stupid test. Also the best year is 05 and 06. Overall those two years seem to have the fewest problems - the only one that comes to mind is you need to replace the oil pickup tube in the 06... eventually.

Also I keep reading about new STI engines blowing up stage 2, what the ****. Terrible.

Sorry Chief, there are more Model Year STI's now with that gearing than not.

07, 08, 09, 10, and now 11.

04, 05 and 06 had the shorter gearing.

OH GOD ITS SO UGLY AND OUTDATED LOOKING.

You know what. The guys doing this review are the same ones that have that stupid Driving Sports app for iPhone - in which every episode they include a wallpaper, WHICH IS ALWAYS THE INCORRECT ASPECT RATIO FOR THE PHONE, and half the time some stupid picture of that girl.

Grrr...

In my opinion all model STI's are sexy (minus the wings, hate them on all generations) but to go and throw in a picture of modded STI to compare to a stock 11 is a bit unfair. True, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I'm not going to make a bold statement in saying that the 11 looks better hands down, but I think we should all be happy with what we've got, becuase clearly we made our decisions based on what we like better, so while I may like the 11 more than previous generations, others will disagree. In terms of performance, there are so many outside forces like driver and condition, and whatnot, so why not just leave it to an old fashion test drive? Either way, it's basically been the same old 2.5 turbo without any significant changes for quite some time now >_>

haha the guy said 'to remove any advantage we replaced the 07's wheels with a fresh set of 2010 wheels'...defeating the purpose that the package 07 is better than the package 2011...

if you're looking at a straight line. Plenty of other comparisons show the '11 being faster than previously tested cars on a road course type event. I don't see any reason to believe we'd find otherwise with the bbs's equipped. The gap narrower? maybe.

These cars are so similar, I can't believe people get hung up on one performance aspect, and such a minimal one at that.

Look at the bigger picture.

I don't think I have ever heard anybody call the 2007 STi the best STi EVER.

The majority of what I've read on here believe the 2005 was the best EVAR

Well, so there's a couple things we can take from this video:

1. Looks are always subjective.
2. The 2011 STI is far better than a 2007 STi around a road course, when wearing similar wheels. (multiple laps throughout the day, best time of 46.67 for the 2007 and best time of 45.31 for the 2011)
... the rest is just filler.

I think it's nice to see that Subaru is back on their trend of improving the model line through suspension tweaks. Was the result actually surprising to some people?

I think the only real question is: Who is Driver X? Anyone have the goods?

Why so caught up? Just accept what the test proves and move on :P It's not the end of the world for STI owners - do you think Evo IX owners are upset because the X beats it around the track? Of course not. Tests are just for selling magazines - driving sells cars.

Hmm...I'll still take an 04 if I'm stuck with a USDM STi. Someone should pit a stock 04 vs. the new model and see what happens. I'm willing to put a paycheck on the 04 mopping the floor with the 11.

Either way its a moot argument. I'm keeping my bugeye and finishing my GC. Subarus all look like Toyotas these days.

So let me get this straight they bring in a ringer for the 2011 STi, and than have the owner of the 2007 STI drive his car across a Auto X course. Yeah of course it was fair.
