Dont jump the gun. I think that the STi will be here to stay for a while... Notice that they said this is the BRZ STi? All sti is.. is a division of Subaru you know right? Like TRD or SVT or something like that...

There runs the possibility to be two STi's in the fleet.. like a SVT Cobra, or the SVT raptor or the SVT focus...

Any one notice the side mirrors? they look to be cameras, with a screen mounted inside? I could just be missing something though.

Thumbs up Awesome

I personally love this car. The fact that it is RWD opens it up to a whole new category. I see this car accelerating in the sport of drifting, where RWD dominates along with a lower engine placed closer to the center of gravity.
Forget AWD, Subaru has its other AWD cars to back it up if you don't like it. I'm happy to see them doing something new to Subaru. Now as far as turbo goes, we'll see what they actually produce come time.

Completely goes against this car's purpose, but part of me would go nuts over the 3.6 sitting in this thing.

If this cars runs the FA engine then that probabyl has the newer Twinscrolll setup which means power which means this could be cool after all but at least it is something to calm the critics

Interesting that in a market like this they are even following through with the sale of this vehicle. I am sure that in time it will have a turbocharger, but not AWD the platform was built to be RWD.

I miss my 97 Supra, I would probably buy this car if it were turbocharged, and did any of you see the estimated curb weight>? 2500lbs... that's less than almost any car on the road....

lightweight + performance = more fun than you can imagine.

We'll see what direction they take this, but for the love of color, stop using WRB start using an adult color like metallic gray or pearl white. I don't care to get teenagers, or police attention, I only care to enjoy driving my car.

i agree with awd never making it to this car and twin scroll being a possibility. I think this is like the 08-10 sti for people, either you love it or hate it, from what i read though in other magazines i thought it would have had a 1.6l twin turbo like the sti in the future might.

Someone is going to buy this, strip it, take a drivetrain of an sti and turbo it with 300whp...then there will be chaos in General, with threads saying OMGZ SUBARUZ WHYZ U NO MAKEZ THIS CARZ!!1!!!one!!

(even tho I'm secretly hoping someone does )

This would be my second car if it cost $25,000 and has the potential of putting out 300hp without spending 5grand. WRX for winter months, BRZ for summer.

I'm interested to see how the FT-86 compares when they are both produced (I smell a new SRT-4 vs WRX type war coming)

I like the car, and would consider one if it were 250hp+ turbo. Boosted engines just seem to be able to gain hp through modding much cheaper, and still keep it reliable for the most part.

I like the way it looks though, and am happy its rwd. We already have an awd sports car, mix it up a bit.

That being said, this won't replace the wrx sti. sti is a division like a previous poster stated. There are forester sti's already (in japan I believe, not in NA )

^^ You are right.

STI (Subaru Tecnica International) is like AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher and Grossaspach) to Mercedes and Abarth to Fiat...sort of in-house tuning companies.

They could have hopped up versions of every car Subaru offers. The BRZ will most likely have an STI and a standard model. The STI, like the AMG badge, is reserved only for cars which are worthy. I am disappointed that there is no talk of a turbo, but so be it. An N/A engine will have much more urgency, and at 2500lbs (hopefully), this car will be a blast to drive. RWD, as long as it is set up properly, is the best way to extract performance from a car IMO. AWD is great, but not for a car like this! AWD is awesome on the rally inspired Impreza platform, but the BRZ is going in a different direction. If it is as light as they are claiming, it will kill GenCoupe's all day long and will be a huge competitor to the Scion FR-S. I can't wait to see this car!

I think people are missing the idea behind this and the FR-S (they are essentially the same car), a perfectly balanced car that can be used in any possible scenario, just like the AE-86. They were designed to be perfectly balanced; power, weight, and handling, so the addition of a turbo would throw off said balance.

The motor in the FR-S/BRZ is supposed to be 2.0L direct injection making 200hp, but the motor mounts were designed so that if you wanted to, you could drop in the 2.5L Turbo. Personally the NA motor sounds like a blast and i would love to see its tuning potential.

The combination of all the different elements that are in this car make it truly a beast of a car and i believe these cars can breath new life into the sports car industry which is becoming slimmer everyday. RX-8 is on the way out and the EVO is becoming a Hybrid sports car, so as sports car enthusiasts i would hope that the community would be more excited for a car like this.

I don't quite understand, if the WRX and STi have been said by Subaru to be breaking off from the Impreza nameplate for 2013 then will they be called something else? Like I thought they would just be called the Subaru WRX and STi but if the BRZ will have an STi version then it wouldn't make sense for there to be a Subaru STi and a Subaru BRZ Sti... Sorry for the rant.

Subaru STI is not a car. I think youre confused. The WRX name plate has never been said to leave but said to leave the impreza chasis. STI is like SVT or AMG. There can very well be a Subaru BRZ STI and a WRX STI... just no longer an Impreza WRX STI (according to rumors)
