Hmm the enthusiasts are going crazy over this thing as a 86/GT-86/FR-S but the sentiment here seems to be "underpowered"
Is this because the WRX/STI have conditioned the Subaru junkies to expect power? This article explains the philosophy better than I can. The conscious effort here seems to not be focused on numbers, and to fill a niche in the market, as well as making something simple and basic that the buyer can build on if they choose. All those clamoring for more power, is the 370Z, G37, Genesis Coupe V6 etc. not already enough choice? Or you just need the Subaru badge? Not sure if this thing will be a wild success as there isn't really anything like it, though the RX-8 was close and that was not a big seller. Maybe this thing is like one of those manual trans diesel wagons all the Internet car d00ds say they would buy but never actually would.

Top speed.com has released info on the Toyota gt-86 saying Subaru promised Toyota that they would produce a 300hp model.

Definitely looks like a Z4 without the quasi-pseudo-German engineering. Needs a turbo and a transfer case though.

While a significantly up-rated power-train would add maybe 200 lbs. to the BRZ, that would still result in a significantly smaller, significantly lighter, more focused car. A 2900 lb. 280+ HP hard top the size of a Miata? Yeah, a G37/GC V6, etc. are absolutely nothing like that. |

They need to introduce a new paint color for this car. WRB is over played in Subarus. I'm sure it will be offered in several but a new color specific to the car would be awesome.
I wonder if Subaru is planning on getting into some different motorsports with this car? Maybe not since they don't even do WRC anymore |

Have they been going in the direction of trophy wife wagons ever since? Or have they continued to make even more bada$$ 911's than ever before? |

love the idea dislike the look it isn't Subaru enough but should be a blast to drive i imagine the FB/A?? to get a boost from teh aftermarket very soon after they hit the streets. YOu boost this thing to 300 at the wheels and similar tq numbers and youve got a problem on your hands (of the good variety)

I don't understand all the depression over N/A. I'd love to see how far Subaru could take a flat 4 without a turbo. Honestly if the STI version was a 2.5N/A with 260hp and around 215 ft/lbs I'd be a happy camper. Remember all of that's going to the rear

Subaru will not produce an STi version for the first year. Historically, automakers wait a year or two for the cream of the crop version to bring the model back to life with consumers.
