What a boring video, and vehicle. Nothing about this vehicle makes me want to buy it.

Looks like a neat car, needs a diesel, and the STi version.
SUBARU OF AMERICA, EVERYONE WANTS THE DIESEL AND HAS FOR YEARS, BRING THE DAMN MOTOR TO THE US.

Good review I like it. You guys do nice work I like the video and review. Would like to see a little more critical review, every product has its downsides there was a little too much blind Subaru love.

The product itself, as a style piece I like it, I don't think they expect anyone to care about the off-road-ability, as evidenced by their "urban" marketing shtick. The 2.0 seems to be a little weak for this one, being a bit heavier and a higher end product the buyers might expect more. But the MPG is there and that is big these days.

You can't even tow with the Impreza sport. If you're happy with your choice then be happy but this car is worth the slight extra cost.

It's a bit better fit than Mazda's 2.0L in the CX-5, at least (Which is one of many models in competition with the Crosstrek). The CX-5 has a 155HP, 150lb-ft torque engine in a vehicle that weighs a good 300lbs more than the Crosstrek. From my experience the AWD model is slow off the line, but still handles very well and it's fun to drive. The Impreza/Crosstrek are similar options - They may not blow the world away but they're still fun in terms of handling.

Of course I'd love to see a 2.5L, turbo, and/or diesel option for the sake of having more choices... but I think that I could be content with the 2.0 for use as a daily driver and moderate off-roader.

I too would have liked to see more content (which may include some not-quite-so-glowing input as well) , though.

My two cents, anyway

A turbo diesel with CVT would be ideal in that car. Ditch those hienous wheels, steelies would look better imo.

Subaru could do a Crosstrek STI geared towards endurance desert racing...Dakar Rally style. Just a crazy thought.....
Agreed. Subaru should totally go in that direction! HA!

I don't care for steel wheels, myself. Alloy all the way! Also, the more I look at those wheels the more I like them. They help to further differentiate the Crosstrek from the Impreza, along with the new colors. A Crosstrek with a turbo diesel would indeed be epic, but I think I'll settle for the current 2.0L... A 2.5L or 2.0L gas turbo option would be nice, though. One thing I would like to see is an option for push-button start with the navi package or something... That feature has really grown on me.

If I was in the market for a new car, I would highly consider buying this......but I would need a turbocharged option. Turbocharge this bad boy (even with the current Foresters XT's 224hp engine) and you have yourself a customer here. It would pretty much take the place of the older SG (03-08) Forester's. Plus, here at altitude in Colorado, we kind of need turbo's (well fine, not really "need", but they're nice to have).

It's supposed to be a beefier Impreza OBS, yet my OBS came with 180hp.

Where's the beef?

I have a feeling that they're trying to bring in more first-time Subaru buyers (like me). What do buyers in the compact/crossover categories typically emphasize? Fuel economy. Yes there is a contingent that craves more power but that market size would be considerably smaller. But that leads me to questions...

First, how much weight would be added by moving from a 2.0L to a 2.5L engine? (EG the one in the Outback) Wouldn't it still be considerably lighter than the Outback which manages 24/30 with the 2.5L/CVT? 173HP or so would be more than adequate for the Crosstrek IMO.

To me, it makes more sense to use a slightly larger engine that won't have to work as hard to push the load than a smaller one that's going to be working harder. Is it purely a cost-saving measure not to offer such options or would the fuel economy not translate as I have envisioned? Perhaps my theory mirrors real-world scenarios but would not be reflected in the EPA rating?

Hopefully someone can answer my questions, as I'm no engine expert :P

Also, I'd like to see a dedicated Crosstrek forum or subforum so I can discuss this vehicle at length with like-minded individuals... (EG people that are interested in the Crosstrek)

They are comparing it to the old Outback Sport, not the Outback.

Nice picture of the vehicle IF you look at it or whatever. Probably a piece of junk. IMO I would not buy it. Look for a 1990-94 Legacy with 200 million miles on it.

Oh yeah I like the short rear overhang. I always enjoy a vehicle with the least amount of crush space so I can really get smashed bad. Apparently Subaru is making videos of smashed up cars.

My question about the 5 speed is, is it a lot like the wrx and not a strongly built and like a piece of glass or more built like the STI?

7 showed up at Subaru dealership around the lunch hour yesterday:

Washed out pictures.. didn't realize someone (probably me) put the white balance on "incandescent" on my ishtay cell phone..

Fixed:

1 in Black w/Leather/CVT:

1 in Dark Metallic Purple:

2 Orange, and 3 in creamy snot:

Got to sit in one, it's no different than a regular Impreza, other than the fact it was higher off the ground (duh).

I wanted the XV but couldn't wait so I picked up the Impreza instead and am very happy with it! The XV does look pretty hot though....

Did the ones at the dealership have window stickers? What are these things being priced at?

I like the wheels. Wouldn't mind seeing them on a rex

Kinda about the HP. My 2004 OBS has 168hp, and while it's a blast to drive, I couldn't imagine ANY less horsepower. A car full of camping gear and two friends leaves it sluggish and slow up in the mountain twisties :/

Nice car. Likely not a vehicle of choice for a motorsports/ driving enthusiast but SOA clearly tries to capture additional segment of the market. If this model sells well to soccer moms, and small families, Subaru will have more money to spend on development of performance models.

It'll be nice when the turbo comes out. I would LOVE to start seeing turbo diesels for everything...and then modding of said turbo diesels.
