If a 15 year old 1.8l legacy brighton can do 120mph on the freeway with 4 dudes and all their junk, i think this will have plenty of power for interstate cruising.

Driving Sports you may have a typo in your article. The Crosstrek comes in cvt and from what I saw at WCSS14 a paddle shift 5spd. auto (pictured above). I have yet to see one with a manual but may be offered and if so you would have three trans. options.

First, it was many years ago when expectations were lower and traffic was slower. Secondly the legacy was built with several versions of the EJ20, including a TURBO. Yes TURBO. At least you had the choice back then, fast track to 2012 and we have just one engine with the torque of a compact car in a small SUV. Very poor engine choice from Subaru IMO. I'm sure a turbo will be available down the line but the N/A should have been better suited to this great chassis.
There has never been a Legacy in the U.S. with a factory installed EJ20, sorry. I don't think the U.S. has ever seen a 2.0 NA subaru motor till the new impreza/XV/BRZ. They went straight from the 1.8 to the 2.2 in the impreza (was there an EA20??). All the 89-94 legacy's had the EJ22, with the turbo's having an EJ22T (I've had 3 NA's and one turbo from this generation). The turbo models still only had 160hp/180ft lbs stock so they are out gunned by both a modern EJ25 or light weight newer EJ20 impreza. (unless you're at altitude where FI doesn't lose as much hp as the N/A's).

Yep, it has less hp than the EJ25 but it weighs less and gets better mileage. The standard impreza with the new EJ20 is faster than the older (heavier version) with the EJ25 even though it has 32 less hp (not sure if that applies to the outback sport vs. XV though). It's all about hp/weight not pure HP #'s.

They'll sell a ton

Oh the diesel wagon brigade is strong here...face it they want to sell this thing to gas engine SUV type people.

Keep waiting for the twin-turbo diesel dual-range DCCD dua-clutch version it will come...who wants a 37k CrossTrek...yeah thought so.

Ill wait till it comes out and take it for a spin, but i just may trade in my 03 Baja for one of these Crosstreks. In my experience its best to wait one season so the kinks from the pror season can be worked out.

Like so many others have already said, bring on the diesel! They say that Subie listens to it's customers, and if that's true, bring on the diesel, as in yesterday...

funny those saying the 2.0 has enough power must not live in ANY elevation, because like mentioned my rs, or outback, or anything non turbo is a slug climbing the colorado mountains unless of course you like holding 5k rpm for 30 mintues or so... climbing each grade.. This thing is ugly, Ill take a forester before this ANYDAY. subarus problem is gasx milage like it or not. everything else is tits but the gas milage just isnt boxer friendly...

The car is available with a true manual transmission in the "Premium" model.

All CVT model Crossteks have a 6 "speed" paddle shift mode where the CVT simulates fixed position gears...

I bought one, and pick it up at the dealer tomorrow.

I got a Crosstrek Limited, in Silver color.

I hope I can get used to the rims, LOL.

Not my first Subaru, but it has been a few years.

Just my 2 cents worth - I like the style. Incrementally better than the base Impreza, and the conservative Forester style is too big and too dated for me. I also like the increased ride height. We have a '12 Impreza Sport now and I want to see if the XV springs will fit in the Sport spring perches. The engine is fast enough with the CVT in normal traffic. It's actually faster than the 1974 BMW 2002tii I used to have (which was considered a pocket rocket back in the 70's), and we also have an '11 WRX when I want to go faster.

I must admit, though, that the new 2 litre turbo motor would be nice in an Impreza.
