Default 2017 Subaru Impreza Driven

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport First Drive

Watch the full video

The all-new 2017 Impreza is the first vehicle to be built on Subaru's new global platform. It's also the first Impreza to be built here in North America. How does it transform this already likable compact? In this exclusive review we take a look at features, test 0-60 performance and a lot more.

*Note: Manual transmission option is a 5-speed, not a 6 as mentioned.

This video has me pumped up! I can't wait to see the next STI, particularly the hatchback again.

Can't we get at least 180hp? The engine is finally DI now so I don't see how this is too much to ask.

I cant wait for Trump to nuke the EPA so car makers can return to making fun vehicles again. Bland boats on wheels, no MT and ~150 hp the end is nigh for fun Subaru's that is.

Thumbs down!

It's a Subaru-specific issue; for less than $22k, the new Civic 1.5T puts out over 175 hp at the front wheels, easily exceeding its 174 crank hp rating.
Subaru has both FB16DIT and FB25 in its arsenal, and yet, we're stuck with the 150-hp FB20.

They got the looks right with the WRX, Legacy, OB, XV and forester but the Impreza is very Mazada/Ford/Civic/Nissan-ish

maybe next MY they will refine the shape Subaru tends to start bloated and thins out over the course of that generation of vehicle. Just look at the BM Legacy vs the BR.

I don't understand the comments about the interior noise. I thought loud interiors were a result of letting exterior noise in. You say that the new interior is so quiet you can hear all the outside noise

I know you are catering to a crowd who already love Subaru but could you try to not sound like so much of a fanboi? I don't think the majority of people would agree that this is the best looking impreza either.

DO NOT ever buy a car based on lack of interior noise. Odds are when you test drive, the tires probably have less than 100 miles on them. Nearly every tire is silent up to like 55mph, and very quiet above that still, at least in the first few hundred miles minimum.

They always get significantly louder after a couple thousand miles or so, and the noise level stays that high until you replace the tires. So basically 95% of the time you're driving a car, it's never going to be anywhere near as quiet as the one you test drove or when you first got it.

Boring, boring, boring... where is the WRX wagon? Who cares about a 152hp car. I'll keep my 280hp GF8 thank you very much.

If Subaru fails with some lame excuse to bring a hatch for the WRX/STI for 2018 model year then come trade time, my brand will be something besides Subaru

152 hp is stupid make it 180 hp. car is weak and i have to press more gas to go. with 152 hp i do have to press more gas it means mpg is bad. I'm getting 20 city and 24 hwy. 2017 subaru impreza sport. bought it 12.10.17. I'm only guessing if you have little bit more power i don't have to press more gas to go. I won't go any more details

depending on driving style, you are 100% correct. my wrx gets better mileage than my legacy because the weak 2.5L has to work so hard and its under much more load all the time.

I'm not exactly sure, to be quite honest. It looks decent in all aspects but it doesn't give me the urge to purchase the all-new improved 2017 Impreza immediately in comparison with the older Impreza where it's a lot more engaging with the driver. I believe the newer model is a lot more refined, mature, and user-friendly that takes some of its heritage away from Subaru.

Hello everyone. I am a new owner of a 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport (in Black). I took ownership 3 days ago, and it is, in fact, the CVT. I will be buying into the next generation WRX when it hits the new platform in the next year or two, but in the meantime, I'm in! I'm looking forward to learning from my new fellow Subaru brethren.

I also have a 2016 Outback Limited (2.5i) fully loaded. These are my first Subarus ever.

I have to say, as a new member to this forum, I'm a little disappointed in the negative comments about the new Impreza. Since I own one I can say it really is quite impressive. It's no WRX, but stop comparing it to one, it's not meant to be one. It serves a purpose, and the new platform makes it really stiff and really responsive. I'm really excited about what Subaru has coming with this new platform, and if luck is in my back pocket, I will own a new WRX hatch in the near future. In the meantime, get in the current car and experience the platform and what they've done to improve it before you criticize it for something it was never intended to be.

Regards,

Brian

Welcome and congrats on the purchase.

We live in the past circa 03-06 when these cars were ugly, had unique styling, and were somewhat rare.

Now they are still ugly but have zero unique styling and are very common.

Give it about 12 months and everyone will like the styling. Even the 05/06 halo cars that people LOVE the styling of now HATED them back in the day.

The impreza never had "unique styling". Besides the headlight/foglight design, it always looked like a corolla or some similar economy car of the era. People
will always think the new car is ugly. It happens every release, it takes time to get used to something new.

I think this is one of the best looking imprezas in some time. The hatch is also the closest thing to a compact wagon subaru has sold in a decade. I like it. If I wanted something cheaper for myself, or my wife's 09 legacy outback needed to be replaced, I'd probably buy one. It will make a great base for the next WRX.
