Cool New To Subaru - Advice ?

I had just bought my first subaru in 2014 and am asking myself consistently why i havent done it sooner! I am really happy with this model, but the problem I am slowly coming to understand is the 2014 has the bent engine rods to increase displacement apparently?

I dont see this as a solid platform to begin building up a performance engine from, so I wanted to reach out to you guys for the following few questions that hopefully you can answer/ point me in the correct direction:

1) Living in Los Angeles, is there anyone/anywhere around here that i can go learn Subaru Engine building? Id like to start learning the different blocks, good and bad of each, and such. Eventually, id like to learn about the transmissions and drive train as well. Not sure if there is a "school" for this, but more or less looking for someone whos got a performance shop who needs an apprentice of some sort to learn from. Any leads?

2) Its my understanding the the block of 2.0 vs 2.5 is the same exterior, just differences internally. Is that correct? If thats the case, can they both be mounted/paired to the same transmission?

3) This may be a more advanced question that i may realize the scope of what im asking at a later time, when i learn and understand more about these set ups, but how difficult/ what complexities would someone have to consider to swap a 2.5 WRX/STI set up into a base impreza platform? Has it been done? If so, by who, so i can get a hold of them.

4) Anywhere to get inexpensive engine (complete) to be able to take apart/study, assemble for purposes of studying the build?

Thanks again everyone. Looking to learn as much as I can, so i can contribute more to the community.

To answer all of your questions, you should spend time reading through the various forms on this Subaru board, as well as others.

There is a lot of information to take in and get you started.
