SOA sells as many or even less STI's a year as Mazda sold its "limited edition" Mazdaspeed 6, and less over the span of its life than the Acura RL. and yes, mechanically speaking, they haven't changed much, that is unless you consider wider wheel arches or different grilles a mechanical change, which i don't

Well selling well for Subaru is nothing compared to larger companies. I think I heard something that said all the vehicles Subaru just sold in their record year here is not equal to the Toyota camari sold last year. Something like that.

What? They went 1/2" wider on the wheels, but the shared WRX/STi/Impreza fenders stayed the same...

The rear fenders in 05 had an extra flare on them to accompany a slightly wider track when they went to 5x114

My baby momma has a 2010 Lancer GTS.. Its not a bad car to drive, nice stereo, I think the interior is decent for an econobox, nice 18" rims but I have two gripes..

The 2.4 makes about 175hp/175tq and only gets 30mpg, and I think that is still the same which is pretty sub-par for today's standards. Also the car sits like damn SUV. Yes it handles okay, nice but the ride height takes away the sportiness of it. Also I think the sticked was 22k for the GTS w/ RF stereo, sunroof, and keyess entry/start. That seems pretty pricey for not having the heated leather seats, nav, etc.

Now they have it with the AWC, but from my understanding, it is a FWD biased, not a 50/50 like the Ralliart/evo. Also only available in CVT, and not with all the options

The potential is there, but they need to step up a few things. Like the eclipse this car is targeted more at a younger generation.

Thats another car that I think looks good but like you said more and more people are concerned with mpg, reliability, and standard options. I don't think many people associate mitsu with reliable. I bought a new civic back in 2010 and all I have done to it is tires, brakes and oil. Its at almost 60k so it is due for a good tune up I am sure but keeps on trucking like it was when new no new creaks or rattles, and it feels pretty sporty. When I looked at this car I didn't even consider that brand bc I wanted something worry free to get me through school.

The largest thing against Mitsu is their horrible manufacturer warranty, and support for it. They fight tooth and nail against doing any warranty work. That's been their modus operandum since the late 90s, and essentially was the nail in the coffin. Lots of mitsus from the Galant, to the Eclipse and 3000GT, young buyers, would have stayed with the company if they actually supported the product when stuff went wrong.

What happened was they pissed off a whole bunch of young buyers, around the explosion of the internet, and said they'd never own another mitsu again, and they told others, who didn't also.

I don't know if a higher percentage of honored warranty claims would have magically improved Mitsubishi's US sales, especially when their products in the 2000s outside of the Evo and the current Outlander Sport were all pretty bad.

When I think of unreliable companies in America I think of: Chrysler and dodge, Mitsubishi, and old jags

Well expensive yes but I don't hear too many ppl complaining about them. I did have a 1.8t that I couldnt fix over the course of six months and I ended up getting rid of it but I think it was a flood damaged car with a lot electrical gremlins.

Yep,

Mitsubishi is actually pretty good at it. Their customer service is good, our rep is great, I really can't complain about them. Now KIA on the other hand, yeah, don't buy a KIA.

So for 22k you want RF stereo, sunroof, keyless entry/start, leather, heated seats AND NAV

Why not throw in a nymphomaniac supermodel and her twin sister.

Do you live in This country? Do you know how much things cost here! Seriously!!!!!

My lx-s civic cost me about 21k I didn't haggle the price bc it was a lease and I didn't know any better but that didn't cone with anything! Haha just better cloth seats, 16" wheels, an exhaust finisher, and a little lip spoiler over the trunk haha. If I wanted all that stuff on my civic it would have had to be an ex and that would have run me prob 25

I didn't realize Mitsubishi had redesigned the Mirage until this thread.

If they did some more marketing of that 44mpg, I think buyers would show up in droves. They REALLY need to advertise a bit more in the US.

People don't complain because it seems like a lot those loyal owners seem to expect stuff to go wrong at some point and take a trip to the dealer, though the experience usually isn't too bad (outside of the inconvenience of something going wrong) since the dealership usually gives you a loaner. I remember back when my dad picked up a CLK320 (I think it was 2000), he didn't mind so much since he liked the fact that whenever he'd bring the car in, he'd get a decent loaner (E320, ML320, etc.) and thought it was fun to drive other Benzes.

I've had a couple of warranty claims (both were very minor things and not mechanical related), and they were never really a big issue, outside of any moronic service reps at the dealership I'd have to talk to. But they always got taken care of, so I didn't have anything to complain about. A lot of the complaints, kind of like any denied claims from the Subaru camp, come from the more aggressive drivers who have modded cars and use the whole "The dealer has to prove that my mods caused the problem" line... which is true, but if you have to pull that card out, then you're going to have a hard time regardless. My car is completely bone stock, and once I told whichever service rep is working that day, they stopped asking questions and just took the car in and fixed it.

At my last trip to the dealership (just another synethtic oil change, as they were included in my purchase), I was chatting with someone else in the lounge, and the guy was an ex-mechanic for a local Honda dealership (I think he said it was in the Garden Grove, CA area, closer to where he lived), and it was interesting to hear why he wanted to steer clear of Hondas and was happy to buy a Mitsubishi. (I think he had an Outlander Sport.) He said that he didn't trust Honda's products all that much anymore. While they're not going to just start breaking on everyone, they've been building a lot more of their products stateside, and he said that the vast majority of the repairs they were doing were on those (and not their Japan-built counterparts), and some of them even had parts that were unique to the US-built ones. But he did say that he trusted Mitsubishi since a good amount of their stuff was still built in Japan. So I guess if it comes from a former Honda mechanic, then it's a bit interesting.

I agree, and while it would help generate some buzz, some company is going to attack it and somehow fiddle with their tiny car so it gets 45 mpg and steals the car's thunder.

This country has a love affair with crossovers. If Mitsu were smart, they'd axe their low-sales models and concentrate on ones that do well. The Outlander Sport looks good and has decent sales. How about giving it the EVO treatement? Hell, if that happened, I'd buy one.

As cool as it sounds, while it will definitely be an improvement over the standard Outlander Sport, it's not going to be anything like an Evo. Just look at the Lancer Ralliart... the Lancer itself already has a stiffer chassis than the outgoing Evo IX, but even with the AWD system pretty much lifted from the Evo IX, it doesn't handle anywhere near the Evo IX or Evo X, and that's with a car suspension. Imagine it on an SUV... though I suppose it would probably make it a beast within the crossover segment, but not quite a dual-personality SUV.

Try the past 3 generation of Forester XT. Terrible suspension with torquey motor. Terrible tires. Mitsubishi would do no worse than the XT and the XT sells decently enough.

I'd buy a Ralliart engine/sst Outlander or Outlander Sport. The V6 offered has nearly identical specs as my ten year old H6. Pretty pathetic for a rapidly expanding segment especially when the Outlander tops out in the $30k range.

Only because Subaru's reputation keeps it there. The OEM tires are terribad and the suspension can be a bit unforgiving but I didn't buy it expecting a Lexus RX. The new XT 2014+ has a better transmission and engine so at least they fixed that with the revision. Four gears on an automatic isn't bad but if I have to pass someone on the 75 MPH tollway I'm still in 4th when I somewhat floor it since at 75 MPH the RPM's sit at 3k easily. ;D

I still love my 2012 Subaru Forester XT though. I'll eventually upgrade once the USDM gets EyeSight 2.0 installed on the Forester XT.

Point being, XT is not, nor never has been considered a drivers car from the factory. Too many different variables resulting in an odd pairing of utility and oh eff mercy. Mitsu could probably add AYC to an Outlander Turbo and make it ridiculous around corners. It would be an interesting and compelling package. Not that MMNA would spend a dime marketing it, though.

Have you driven the new 2014 FXT? It's oddly pleasant to drive. Plenty of power for the vehicle it is, but it handles itself well.

A driver's car? That's very vague. My definition of "driver's car" would be a car that takes you from point A to point B without hassle. It has an automatic and no fussy eletrogadgets that ask for driver input to configure right height, comfort, etc (BMW/Audi). The XT's have always been driver's cars in my opinion.
