Lightbulb WRX owners, please help with this experiment.

Get your car moving at about 20-25 MPH and shift into 4th gear. While in 4th, accerate up to 35 MPH and listen for a buzzing/rattling sound. If you hear it please report back here in this thread and note what RPM you hear the noise at.
I can reproduce the buzzing in any conditions if I use the technique above at about 2000-2300 rpm. I'm fairly sure that it's a heat shield rattling against something but I can't see what it is for the life of me! My guess is that RPM range produces the right frequency vibration to set the heat shields a rattlin.

Default Heat Shield

My heat sheild above the muffler rattles every once in a while, but I have aftermarket exhaust, so it is probally that. What makes more noise is the heat shield farther up, nearer the the last cat. I had some valuable gravel/dirt road training to prepare for, uh, emergencys....and stuff.... and i found small rocks or pebbles stuck in the shield by the last cat.

If I run my car at 20-25mph in 4th, I get a noise similar to what you described. That having been said, I'm usually only in second or third - or first - at that speed, so I don't notice it much.

I had a similar rattle, it was coming from the defroster trim right at the edge of the windshield. (the piece you see through the windshield withthe vin on it) It was very easy to hold it down and turn the rattle on/off. just reach forward when it is happening and apply a bit of pressure. This pops off fairly easily, and I used some foam to isolate several areas, like the ledge near each clip, and the edge on the I/P where they meet up.

My car doesn't want to accelerate at 25 MPH in 4th gear .... turbo is napping and the engine is lugging. The whole engine is shaking, the heat shield is rattling, my glove compartment is making a buzzing noise, and my trunk monkey is complaining! :monkey:

Any engine with a manual tranny forced to accelerate at a low RPM will cause everything loose to rattle! Not good for the engine bearings, either!

Where in my post did it say 8 mph in 5th? I asked you guys if you heard buzzing with 4th gear between 25 and 35 mph. All of a sudden people make fun of me for asking this question. I'm trying to locate the buzz and determine if it's a legitimate problem or just some heat shield resonating. I never said anything about going up hills. What are you guys smoking?
I didn't ask for smartass commentary or " lol ROTFLMAO", whatever, I asked for results. If you don't want to help stay the **** out of this post you ******** :monkey:
