Spacers and wheel balance + other issues with spacers
I've had no luck getting a straight answer from the Mazda forums, so I'll rely on ol' NASIOC for some advice. I've haven't seen or heard much in regards to the effect that spacers have, mainly with throwing off the wheel balance and adding stress to the studs.
Now from what I gathered, "quality" spacers such as ones by Eibach and H&R are made to be very light, fairly balanced and hub centric, which would not cause any issues. I'm only looking to at a 3-5mm spacer, nothing aggressive, just enough to add clearance to the wheel/tire and strut/spring, with the wheel that I'm choosing to go with. Any input and can anyone with the H&R, Eibach or other brand spacers give their experience.

both brands you mention are very good quality and keeping the thickness at 3-5 millimeters will still allow for the wheel to engage the center hub so, the "added stress" on the lug studs will not be an issue

Aluminum isn't heavy enough nor is the spacer big enough in diameter for balance to be an issue with the spacer itself.
As long as you torque your lugs carefully in a sensible pattern, you should be able to get the wheel plenty centered without any contact with the hub. Just be sure you have enough thread engagement (generally 1x the diameter of the stud). |

I'm running a 2mm steel spacer that is ~1mm off center on the rear wheels, and have zero balance issues. But maybe off-balance is more difficult to detect on the rears than the fronts.

Great input NASIOC I really appreciate it. It's going to make my wheel choice a lot easier.
Also it seems that the H&R kits come with extended studs which I feel safer doing. |
