WOW I havn't read this thread in a while...

It seems the entire thread has turned into a Uncle scotty beatdown !

D1; it seems you know your stuff about transmissions.

Uncle scotty likes to start ****... I don't think you really understand that. And from the looks of it, it sound like you are both competeing in the special olympics

While I'm sure there are different fluids out there that might be better suited for a newer, less worn Subaru transmission, the Coctail is definatly a great fix ("bandaid") for an older worn tranny.

I have run the coctail in both my 150,000 mile Subaru Legacy tranny, as well as my 10,000 mile 05 Legacy GT transmission. It seems to have worked great in both...BUT I am not against trying other fluids.

I think people need to know this is not the end all of subaru tranny fluids... but definatly a viable option.

Do you have the results anywhere? If you do, post them up, then we can compare them when I get my USC analyzed pretty soon here and actually get some factual data on whether or not the cocktail makes stuff explodify.

wow this thread turned ugly!

just curious, but has anyone running the cocktail ever taken a sample and let it sit on the shelf for a month in a clear container? I'd be curious to see if you get separation in the ingredients, or if anything does fall out of solution.

I think I'm going to bottle a few samples of my used fluid for personal (and maybe lab) testing when I change it next. What would we expect Blackstone to charge for an analysis, anyway?

EDIT: I got off my ass and looked it up, since I do have the resource of the whole internet. They'll send you a oil collection kit for free, and charge you $22.50 for the analysis when you send it in. At least that's for oil. I'll e-mail them asking about gear oil.

I just got a reply from Blackstone labs:

Quote:
Yes we do. The testing kit is the same, and the cost is the same too. Just
make a note on the slip that it's transmission oil, and the type of oil it is, if you
know it.
I already have a kit, so I'll be sending it in soon.

Edit: For those interested, see http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Now you just need everyone here that uses usc to send a sample in, shouldn't be too difficult, lol. Maybe someone should start the "Send your old usc fluid in to blackstone labs so we can see what the heck is going on inside of your tranny!" thread..

I got the exact same reply from Blackstone just now.

I think you're right, 2slofouru, we should make a thread just for analyzing our gear oil results, once we get the first results.

I'll be sending in a used cocktail from my 260,000+ mile old 1992 Legacy tranny, and a stock fluid from a 140,000 old 2001 Outback since both of these are not the kind of thing the rest of you will do. I'm hoping that you guys will get a used cocktail from a newer car, and maybe an unused cocktail for reference?

haha holy crap this thread has went crazy.

i've put sooo many dang miles on my trannies with the cocktail in and beat them to death and have no issues. this was all before grimmspeed was even around so please dont call me biased. my old 02 wrx tranny had about 80k on itbefore i sold it...beat it everday with cocktail in it and no problems at all. i'm not a technical tranny guru but from my personal long term experience the stuff works great.

I have had USC in my car for 15k miles now. When should I change this concoction?

I dont want to keep using it if I have to change it every 15-20k. Does anyone else have a suggestion a reg tranny oil that is not synthetic?

thank you

It's said the cocktail should be changed every 10-15K miles. We've been discussing the excessive wear caused by the cocktail and the following fluids have been recomended:

Subaru Extra-S (ask for it at a dealer, or buy a 5 gallon drum, not sold by the quart)
75w90w Valvoline
Amsoil
Motul Gear 300

I think I will just use the Valvoline as a replacement. Does anyone have a cheap webpage / vendor to order the above oils from...?

You should be able to find the valvoline locally. Check speed shops for amsoil or Motul. There's a Carquest/NAPA that carries ansoil by me.

i'm pretty surprised that people put these random made-up mixtures into a 25,000 or even a 34,000 car. but then again most people on nasioc seem to break tranny's and etc anyway.
