Default Installing a trubo into 2.5i

I was looking at maybe putting a turbo into my 2.5i and was wondering what would be required to place a turbo into a not previously turboed system. I read the unabombers manifesto but only saw stuff about upgrading a turbo.

ok well before u hear the many comments saying it is not good to do that i am going to say it. it is not worth the money because what u will spend will net u around what u could get a wrx for and more. but if u really want to do it go a head.

oh yea also why didn't u get a wrx if u wanted a turbo car?

A wrx motor swap or forged piston swap (forged and lower compression) at the minimum. NA subby motors dont hold up well to boost, most blow within 10k miles, many in under 5k. Even when "done right" and "tuned conservatively"

Many hundreds before you have tried, all but a handful (litterally a handful, I know of like 3 guys) have had the motor let go in very short order. Most run an intercooler, only 4-7PSI and tune it well, and it still blows pretty fast. And for your hard work and money, you end up making less power than a stock WRX.

From a financial standpoint, if you want a turbo, you are FAR better off heading back to the dealership and trading it in on a WRX, even a low milage used one. Heck even a 50k mile old one.

Sorry man, I know its not what you want to hear but you need to hear it before you spend a bunch of money.

Here is the rest of the bad news. There is very little you can do to gain any power on that motor. NA subbies dont seem much of anything from bolt on power mods. You can do an intake, header/full exh and cams. You will have spent EASILY 2k, have no powertrain warranty, and if you are lucky, you will have 15whp worth of gains. Pull the motor and do forged high compression pistons, and you have to run 93 octane, and you STILL dont make 200whp. A stock 06+ WRX makes @200whp.

You can improve throttle response a bit with an intake and catback, but thats pretty much it. Beyond that you are throwing money away on power mods.

Now on to the good news. WRX parts bolt up from a suspension and braking standpoint. You can make your car handle INSANELY well, and stop on a dime.

OK well I figured I would get replies like this. I figured it wouldn't work I was just wondering. I don't really have money for any mods. So even if it would have worked I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyways. Thanks guys.

Sorry man

Dont count yourself out on mods totally. There are a ton of used STI and WRX parts out there cheap that would provide nice improvements on your 2.5i

To be perfectly honest, you'd probably just be better off saving money through college and then when you land a job, buy a WRX. I spent all of HS working on my 73 Duster (it has over 9k in it atm) and then in college I never could afford to work on it. I ended up selling the Duster to my dad, taking my graduation money, and when I landed a job after graduation I bought the WRX.

Also, I spent a ton of money trying to make the Duster into a decent handling car. And I learned the hard way that trying to force a car into something it wasn't designed to do is extremely expensive and usually really not worth it. That would apply to turboing a 2.5i. Trust me, I've been there.
