Thumbs down

Oh man, not someone else who wants a rear-wheel drive Subaru! We just talked about this a few weeks ago (camaroman's post). Buy a RUSTANG!!!

Seriously though, why would you want to take a car that was purpose-built for AWD and make it RWD?? The whole idea of buying a Subaru is the AWD. If you have an automatic, there is a fuse you can pull to put it into front wheel drive, but PLEASE don't deface your poor scooby and make it into a RWD car.

A concerned AWDriver,
Dan

So you can run your AWD on on one of the thousands of 2WD chassis dynos that litter the country.

If it's just to play around, you might want to think twice.

Couldn't you do something to screw with the center differential? Isn't that what controls the AWD system/transfer?

Probbly, they do that on many of the WRX's, but I don't know if you can get them to be 100/0 I thought it was only like 60/40 or something along that lines.

I'm not sure what the answer is but, about the center diff...

A differential can split power 0/100 or 100/0. The power tries to take the path of least resistance, which means if you were to disconnect the front driveshafts or something similar all the power would want to go to the front. (One wheel spins and the other does nothing, right?) The viscous limited slip would limit it but would it would be fried in no time.

What you need is someway to LOCK the differential to force a 50/50, and then disconnect the front somehow. The viscous only works if there is a speed difference front to back and locking the diff will prevent that. It's possible I suppose, and I think that's how some did it, but I don't think it's easy.

Dave

There should be a way to modify the center diff. from an automatic to go RWD when power is cut instead of FWD... then it should be possible to replace your center diff with said modified automatic lsd. I stress the SHOULD because I have never tried it and don't know enough about the particulars involved.
