Default Subaru STI Type RA is coming!

Put aside the recent rumors, and look at this from the press release from SOA on June 1st. In the PR regarding the Nurburgring lap attempt there is a sentence on note:

If this is a legit RA model and not another limited editon model with do-dads and nothing important, I want one. Subaru has completely failed to bring us any of the JDM special edition cars up to this point.

Looks to me like nothing more than a glorified special edition with some CF bits that's going to command an obscene price.

Lets see come june 8th first haha.
If it really is a legit Type RA there will be some decent upgrades. Lets hope they didn't water down the name by making it a trim show-piece.

I'm surprised it's not here already, but sources are saying there will be unknown "gearing and engine upgrades".

RA means "race altered" and not "record attempt"

Well, past Type RAs had those so its an easy assumption to make -- I'm guessing they're also guessing based on history.

Agreed, but do you think the North American market would be buying up Spec C, S20x, S40x, etc?

I'm stoked to see the potential of something new, but I have a feeling the general consensus is gonna balk at it.

10 years ago? Probably not. Right now? Yes, the market for limited edition cars seems to be mega-hot.

Ok so my ground rules are this....

If this car just has gold wheels, different gearing, 5hp and some carbon bits, I'm not interested.

If it has some serious drivetrain changes, reduced sound deadening, serious weight reduction, Group-N bushings, and serious Aero, I'm going to buy it.

Okay, I do see your point there, and even in the Import side of it as well with the Type R.

And I agree, that would be the RA that I want. But I have a feeling they will ease into it with the RA. Definitely a step in the right direction though, and hopefully they will sell out and show a want for more.

It will be very few in number, I'm sure so it will sell. Even if there is nothing substantial about it.

Unfortunately, if it does have some real upgrades, I have a feeling it will fall victim to crazy markups and pricing so it will be hard to come by.

I also have a feeling us Canadians will get screwed and have some stupid small number sold here... or even none we'll see I guess...

But all this instead:

2.0 l BOXER DOHC 16 valve dual AVCS twin scroll turbo

SUBARU BOXER [EJ20 TURBO] boasts a number of glory in motor sports. The sharp acceleration by the twin scroll turbo and the increase in the power of the high revolution range bring exact feeling like a sports engine. Its torque characteristic is almost flat to the maximum value, demonstrating about 90% of the maximum torque at only 2,400 revolutions by precisely tuned ECU control. The delicate response to accelerator operation and the dynamic acceleration characteristics provide pleasure to control the high power as desired.

IF this is a "true" RA, then I think that even my dealer will mark it up(if we are lucky enough to get one). Something we've never done. Good luck to ya.

If the limited sti had a low number of build quantity I believe this will even be lower so that markup will put it well above the the 40k of an STI. I will buy it if it does have a bunch of upgrades over and above the STI but if the same motor and some little bits then no thanks...also 19" rims seems silly.

Or just "license" a "blueprint" from Porsche and manufacture their 2.0T flat four in house.... Shut up and take my money.

$20 says it's some carbon wing, aero / splitters up front, diffuser in the back, sweet interior stitching for a $10k premium.

nope.

As long as there's no crazy markup, I'll be in line right behind you.

If Subaru does some crazy modifications to the engine for this upcoming Type RA, wouldn't they have to run it through it's proper courses/certification in order to sell it in the US? We would have DEFINITELY caught a blurb or two about this. I don't know what the rules are but lets hold Subaru gets to sneak this one in without having to go through all of that.
