Default Intake

Alrighty. So I've done quite the research when it comes to intakes but am looking for some advice as to what intake is best for me. I dont plan to do much more with my car (engine-wise), just small things, really, but I have the typical NA auto engine. I'm looking for an intake with decent, but noticeable gains. I dont, however, want an intake that is incredibly loud. Sure, I want it to be able to hear it, but I dont want it to SCREAM, if you know what I mean. I dont want it to distort the sound quality of my system, which I'm in the market for a HU, bc of the intake.
So here are my routes...
Cobb CAI - $269 LOUD, Best gains, Expensive.
Ganzflow - $120 Not sure on sound, Decent gains, cheaper.
Ebay CAI - <$50 Not sure on sound, Decent gains, cheapest.

At first, I was like, "Cobb is the way to go." However, after researching and the thread regarding the stock intake with the ebay intake, there was about a 10HP difference. I also looked at the Type R intake, but havent heard many good things regarding it.
Really, what I'm looking for, is a reliable, decent/nice gains, best bang for your buck, intake. Any ideas, comments?
thanks in advance.

EDIT - Agh! -- Meant to put this in the NEWB forum. If you could move this, that'd be great. sorry

i wouldn't change the intake on your car. I'd recommend a k&n flat panel which would have some gains for much less money without the possible headaches intakes can create.

No other ideas? I'm wanting to change the intake because of the gains. what are some of the common problems with intakes? k&n flat panel, what gains are we talking about? less than 3hp probably?

Iceman12321 (this is my opinion), I would ofcourse say go COBB, but since you want something cheap and relible I would say go PDM with a KN drop in filter. It will still be a cold air style, retain stock air box, have a hard time suckin' water into the engine, be aggressive but not too much (stock box keeps the noise down a little), and it will be cheap. The other alternative is to make your own version of the PDM/Ganz intake. Others have done a PCV or Custom aluminum, it all depends on what you want. This is how I would rate the intakes (based on performance)-
COBB, Injen, PDM/Ganz w KN, GP Moto, Weapon R and then Ebay Short Ram. There is a new Mugen CAI out for the 2.5RS, but I have only heard of one guy with it and I don't what he thought of it. Anyway goodluck

i read alot of intake threads on this board some people always mention the loud factor on the intake, is it really that damn loud? How loud is loud? The loudest suction i ever heard was on a Honda S2000 with independent throttle bodies. Is our intake that noisy? does it not sound good? im very confused on this issue of loud intakes hahahaha sorry please help me out.

Cobb:

It sounds extremely good if you like the sound which most people on here i think do. When you aren't on the throttle, it is just about as quiet as stock. At WOT, it is really loud, but you dont have to be at WOT all the time now do you

i have the injen cai and love the sound. when you are accelerating it sounds like a beast. power gains were pretty good and coupled with a good exhaust your car will be breathing nicely!

I'm starting to lean toward Cobb, once again...but I dont believe it is the best intake, if your looking for, 'best bang for you buck', which in this case, I am. I am second guessing on even getting an intake, because many people say that they arent worth it and cause problems. What is the most common problem? CEL I've heard...? Just how big are these problems and how often?
But I ask you, If I werent to look into intakes...what other 'power' mods are out there (for my car) that are worth it?
