Default CEL trend

4th GC now with P0420. Looks like the stock Subaru gas cap isn't sealing as good as it used to anymore.

I will probably take Chris' advice and invest in a new gas cap.

I've heard of some people that decided to just crazy glue the gas cap shut so there wouldn't be any more leaks, works great.

I had the same code a few months ago, turns out it was an issue with my evap system leaking.

I got cheap... went to Lordco 8 bux tax included (but I have a employee discount card). Think it's about 11 without the card.

Good to hear! I had the same code and the vented gas cap from Wal-Mart did the trick for me. Try a gas cap first and if it works it's an $8 fix; if not, OK, next step. If it still back it's not the gas cap and probably something you should check out at a shop at that point. They can hook it up to a machine that can easily find the leak.

I'll take a pic of the gas cap that worked for me and what to look for.

Just a little update i guess, My CEL came on about 2 days after clsmooth pulled the code, was on for about 3 weeks and now it turned off again yesterday. Went out and bought a red gas cap with a little black button in the middle from Canadian Tire for 9 bucks. Hopefully it stays off

^^^ i have got that STi cap if anyone is interested.. haha..

btw it's NOT a direct replacement.. it goes on to the stock cap.. and requires some trimming.. you can also use it as your oil cap too!

pm me if anyone is interested.. it's new in box..

No guarantee, but worth a shot cause it's possibly a quick, cheap and easy fix.

are you guys serious ? what on earth makes you think code 420 is the gas cap ?? thats the cat code...

EDIT: looks like someone else posted the same. Anyways, you might be confusing 442 with 420. In any case, 420 is NOT the gas cap and NEVER WILL BE so if the gas cap fixes it, you dont have 420.

Anyways, this is the cap that worked for me, it never came back afterwards in my case. Look for one with the button in the middle.
