OEM WRX springs and struts definitely shouldn't help much. You'd need to go aftermarket.

You can try the WRX struts with RCE black springs. That may give you a more even ride. I'm thinking of doing that. maybe upgrading to Konis for adjustable dampening too. If you want lower in the front you can also get the RCE front lowering camper plates.

I don't think garamas posted his car in here after switching from BC Racing BR Series to BC Racing Extreme Low coilovers so, I'll post it up for him just as a reference for other users. Plus his car looks great!

If you have aftermarket rear LCA's you can use the STI equipment in the rear. The front cleave that attaches to the hub in the front is too large at the moment and doesn't fit properly. I am working with my buddy who is a fabricator on some sort of piece to put in to make it work. It's almost the definition of insanity. I had this crazy idea of going kyb wrx struts up front and STI struts in the rear, the issue that rests with this idea is that the wrx kyb strut cannot deal longterm with a higher spring rate spring, ie rce yellows and possibly blacks. RS-R's, swifts, epics, eibachs, et al. are ok I am guessing. I haven't read their spring rates. A good rule of thumb is nothing over 235lbs/in on the fronts. If it is metric you can use the equation, 2.2lbs=1KG, 1 inch=25.7mm so it would go like 2.2*(stated kg amount)*25.7=lbs/in. Disclaimer: Not a math professor. Anyway have fun. |

does the 2012+ Impreza share the same front strut geometry as the 11-14 widebody wrx? Did you get any measurements? Has anyone installed WRX springs on their 2012+ Impreza? I have some spare 2012 WRX springs i am thinking of installing on my wife's 2012 Impreza Sport... does anyone know the stock spring rates for the 2012+? does the baseline impreza and the Sport share the same springs? Quote:
FWIW, i am using 2011 STi springs and Koni's on my 08 wrx. it went from 15" hub center to fender in the front and 14" in the rear, to about 14.5" front and rear. i machined some spacers for my rear koni's to raise the rear spring perch 8mm, to accomodate the 30mm shorter rear 2011+ STi springs. the front springs installed without an issue and lowered my front about 1/2". With my spacer (i used 8mm, but would do 7mm or maybe less if i was to remake them) it raised my rear a bit more than 1/2", so i am now more evenly raked, but with my rear a tad higher. 2LiveCrew style. I don't know why I had the 7 stuck in my head! I don't know the spring rates on the '12+ impreza sport but I had a diagram printed from subaru for an '08 wrx and most of the parts are the same. I am guessing that the '12+ impreza sport is a recycled '08 wrx suspension. If you look at some of the earlier posts in this thread their were some pioneers that actually installed wrx aftermarket struts and springs in their '12+ impreza. I think the 2012 wrx springs you want to use will be good to go. My RS-R downs are about 206#f and 222#r. As far as I know the '08-'14 impreza sport, wrx, and some of the obs have pretty similar suspensions. The obs has a taller strut, so I have read. When I complete my rce blacks and koni insert install on my car I will take the measurements off the stock '12 set-up. For anybody who is insterested, I am running godspeed rear lca's for an '08-"14 wrx, whiteline rear 20mm sway bar BSR49, kartboy rear wrx '08-'14 end links, Megan Racing rear toe arms for '08-'14 wrx, legacy, brz, and this car. Off all the things I have in this car, the sway bar was the best investment. I promise to take pictures of it all when I do the koni install. Any pics of your spacer? I am interested in a little rake for the rce blacks. |

still not sure i will actually install the springs, but after installing a 19mm STi rear sway bar and a sport grille on my lady's 2012 sport, she sort of has the mod bug. "what else can we do to make my car better?" hahaha she loves my stage 2 wrx. Quote:
this is the thread i took over, trying to make this work: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2453203 OP never responded or returned my PMs. it was a looooong road of trying to have a stiffer and not lowered "daily driver only" suspension, without spending a trilliondy papers and shinies. honestly, if you want to change your rake a tad, i think you'd be better off with strut spacers. i am definitely no suspension guru, but my spacer would add more preload to your springs, which could be problematic. my spacer is necessary to run the rear STi springs as they are 30mm shorter, and were slightly loose when the spring and shock and tophats are installed. i initially made the spacers 30mm thick, giving the spring the same .750"ish preload as the WRX springs, but then my car was a good 30mm too high in the back!!! so i cut it down to just give the springs a touch of preload, and take up the spring's slop so it couldn't be misaligned at full droop. final spacer: 2011 STi vs 2012 WRX rear springs: Last edited by isotopesope; 01-21-2014 at 11:14 AM. |

Is there a specific reason you're waiting for him to post his car with the RS-R springs? Other users have already posted their car with those springs installed in this very thread, such as MjSub2.0:

I have been on RSRs for 8 or so months and love them. Nice soft ride and subtle drop. I feel the rake has been taken out and it sits pretty level.

RonJr, are you on 17's or 18's in that pic too? Width? Tire size? That looks to be around the stance I'm going for..

has any one done 2013 wrx springs on there 2012+ 20I. I've got a 2013 20I hatch, and a guy is going to give me his 2013 wrx springs for free. did it drop the car by anything? .25 .5 .75? or just stiffen up the car and make the handling better?

56K warning. pedantic blathering ahead!
Quote:
if that's true, then that front spring rate is softer that 2009-2014 WRX stock springs! no wonder your struts blew! even koni's would probably hate those springs too! did you ever get a measurement of the stock front strut? i really wonder how it compares to the 11-14 vs 08-10 WRX: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...7&postcount=56 i read this entire thread twice now and still never found anyone's measurements, nor anyone installing stock WRX springs. i'm picking up a used set of 16" momo winter pro wheels and general altimax snow tires for my wife's impreza sport tomorrow... so when i swap them, i'll measure her strut. HUBBA HUBBA! Quote:

if you're getting them for free and are feeling feisty, it may be worth a try if you're doing the install. you'd be the pioneer everyone is waiting for! Last edited by isotopesope; 01-30-2014 at 10:04 PM. |

from what i have read in this thread, some folks with the RS-R Downgrade springs have said it feels a bit stiffer than stock? the RS-Rs are apparently at 206# F and 222# rear. but the front springs are too soft for how low they get and will blow your struts. in my opinion, lowering an impreza more than 3/4"-7/8" is stupid. typically, if you're going to lower the car, the dampers really should be upgraded. the 2009-2014 WRX all share the same spring rates: 217# F and 194# rear. another thing to keep in mind is that the 2011-2014 wide body WRX is 300 lbs heavier than the 2012+ 2.0i, so percentange of stiffness increase may be more drastic than putting stock WRX springs on a 08-11 2.5i. if you're getting the WRX springs for free, why the hell not put them on your car!? it's bound to be a spring rate improvement. i would doubt the stock WRX springs would be too stiff for the stock dampers either... running too soft and too low of a spring with be murder on the dampers. also, running too stiff of a spring with too soft of a damper, will cause the ride to be too boucy, since the damper cannot control spring properly. i would also consider an even bigger rear sway bar... 08-09 STi's came with an 18mm, and 2010-2014 STi's came with a 19mm. i just put the 19mm STi bar on my wife's 2012 sport, and it made a nice, but subtle difference. hers came stock with a 16mm. i personally am running an adjustable 22mm whiteline bar, with support braces, and rallitek endlinks on my 08 wrx. i eventually want to upgrade my front bar to a 22mm adjustable as well. this is a GREAT article on descriptions of handling characteristics of various swaybar setups: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2462278 Last edited by isotopesope; 01-31-2014 at 11:44 AM. |
